If anyone has other suggestions for durable, engaging toys that make smart dogs use his or her mind to solve problems (and be rewarded with treats), I would love to know. I have tried the Starmark toys (both the bob-a-lot and the cube), Busy Buddy Linkables, the Petsafe Buddy Squirrel, and some of the "board games". Because I work from home, I'm looking for something that will quietly preoccupy two high-energy dogs for at least as long as a 12" rawhide stick - 30-90 minutes.
At the point of mass sell-out, for the first time in all these years, I purchased my dogs' favorite toy from a seller, with excellent feedback, and then another seller, with excellent feedback, and so on and so forth. This repeated purchasing was necessary because all the Kong Extreme toys we have been purchasing since May of 2019 are getting chewed through within a couple of days, as opposed to our dogs' normal three to four weeks. The price doubled, overnight, quite literally, when Amazon official, the store we all know and trust with good reason, as they have more than earned it, ran out. That price has stayed high, ever since, with a much lower quality product being sold in place of the tough, durable Kong products we are all used to.
I am contacting the manufacturing company about this but, to be clear, I don't recommend buying this product unless you find it in a store and can inspect it first. There is something wrong with the new batches of Kong Extreme. We've had over a dozen now and their new rubber is comparatively soft and falling apart, very easily, when chewed. It smells different. It looks exactly the same. It's buyer beware on this one until they start making them the way they used to, as these new Kongs are terrible.
Amazon Customer Service, coming from someone that relies solely on you for many of my purchases, it is important to trust you. Please do an audit (not only the Kong) and get rid of the fakes!
My dog has a very strong chew style. I don't leave her unattended with toys because she will tear them apart.
I decided to try the Kong as a way to extend dinner time; Fill it with kibble and put peanut butter on the bottom. She did great licking the peanut butter and getting the kibble. It took 20 minutes. After the food was gone, she gnawed at the top and ripped the toy open in 10 minutes.
The reason for this review to remind everyone to monitor your dogs with toys. People use the Kong to help with separation anxiety and boredom. Before leaving your dog unattended with a toy, make sure that you know that the toy/dog combo is OK.
I'm giving the Kong 4 stars because I know it's a good product, but obviously didn't live up to my needs.
In case anyone is wondering, the one toy that can withstand her chewing is the Goughnuts Maxx. The toys from Goughnuts are pricey, but have a 100% replacement policy. They are made with a inner safety indicator (red means stop) and different strengths of exterior material.

I bought three of these and the first thing I noticed (except for the excessive plastic wrapping added by Amazon) was the awful smell coming from them. They smelled like a tyre fire. I also noticed that the finish on them is not the usual gloss but an odd mix of matte and gloss which I've never seen before (see photo). I tried washing them by hand, soaking them and eventually putting them through the dishwasher. Nothing got rid of the smell, and my dishwasher now stinks of it. I could smell them from across the room. Needless to say these didn't get anywhere near my dogs as I didn't want to make them sick and have returned them. I will be buying from a reputable pet supplier in future.
I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rosie. Nothing but KONG Extreme will survive her chewing/playing for very long.
Rosie already had a KONG Extreme bone but this new toy has her totally hooked! She has so much fun with it, I think particularly because of its random bounce etc when I throw it for her.
If Rosie could speak she’d tell you this is by far the best dog toy ever!
Un like se la mia recensione ti è stata utile grazie ;)
The kong is easy to clean, just wash it in warm soapy water. This kong has survived almost three months of chewing, being thrown around outside and being frozen a lot. It has a few teeth marks, but that’s it. It’s in remarkably good condition considering the amount of use it’s had. It’s a very tough, robust dog toy, I’d definitely recommend it.

One important thing though: If your dog is a power chewer, like mine, going for a larger Kong will do much more difference than going from a Normal (red) Kong to an Extreme (black) Kong. In fact a black x-large Kong lasts only marginally longuer than a red one. On the other hand, if by mistake I buy a large one instead of an extra large one, no matter the colour, it won't last a week.
One thing is sure, there are always a few stuffed Kongs in our freezer in case of emergency.
A 3 year-old, 30kg weimaraner that's quite happy to chew through marrow bones and cow's hip-joint ball for fun.
As recommended, slapped peanut butter to the inside along with a few bits of treats.
The trick (for such a 'power chewer') seems to be to get the size up. This one's s'posed to be for +38kg dogs.
Spedizione Amazon velocissima e super efficiente.
