High quality, feature-rich supply for a great price
This power supply has a very impressive amount of functionality and quality for the price. The voltage and current displayed on the readout is very accurate. I checked with a multimeter from 10mV to 31V and also at various steps in voltage. Same for current from 10s of milliamps up to the max.So it's accurate and 30V 5A is more than enough for many projects, no complaints there. In terms of user interface, I think it's fantastic. Really happy with how simple and intuitive it is. There are no weird additional functions that require you to hold buttons and input something; all the functionality is clear and you don't have to read the user manual to understand what the buttons do.The memory functions work very simply; whatever memory setting you have selected, any changes you make are stored there. It's a bit of a bummer that if you change something, you have to change it back instead of being able to just save one setting and revert, but I appreciate the simplicity. The lock, over voltage protection, and over current protection is very easy to use and self explanatory. You need to hold the lock button for a couple of seconds to turn it on and off. With the lock on, the buttons and knob do nothing. Great for making sure you don't fry something by accidentally changing settings. One thing I really like about the user interface is the audio feedback. A lot of people don't like it when their equipment beeps with every button press, but I think it's nice to know that your button press registered, and this power supply does it really well. All of the buttons make a beep, and things like using the lock or turning the unit on produce a different beep. The knob (which is a rotary encoder that is not continuous but has bumps, not sure what you call that) makes a clicking sound when you increment or decrement (is that a word?) a digit, which feels really nice.Inputting a voltage/current is really quick and easy despite there being no keypad. For the price, it's completely acceptable that there's no keypad, and the rotary encoder and left/right buttons work just fine. The audible feedback and clicks in the rotary encoder make it easy to really quickly dial in a value. There is software included as well, and it's pretty good. I'm not completely sure, but it seems like it's just a labview program (though I don't know too much about labview, I am just a lowly undergrad EE student). It does install some national instruments stuff during the installation process. It's very easy to install and use, and you just connect to the power supply with a COM port. You can do anything on the software that you can do with the physical buttons, with some additional functionality. With the software, you can output a sequence of voltages at any time interval. You can also record the voltage and time at any interval and save that data to a text file, which you can import into Matlab or whatever you want to use. It shows graphs of the current and voltage as well. All this stuff is great for plotting I-V curves and seeing how much current your device is using over time. Cool stuff.Since it connects with a COM port, I'm sure you could get it to work with your own Labview programs, matlab stuff, or any other applicable software. I used the USB port (cable is included), but there's also a serial port which is cool.My one complaint with the software is that the buttons for quickly recalling set voltages and currents are filled with some seemingly random values and don't save what you change them to when exiting the program. Weird stuff. The connectors on the front accept banana plugs, or bare wire. They seem like pretty nice connectors and all my banana plugs fit well. The included leads are perfectly functional, although the banana plug portion has a screw and an extra hole, so not sure what's going on there. They feel a bit weird. But who cares, you're probably using your own leads anyways.Overall, there's nothing I can fault with this unit. It seems like all the things I've seen in reviews on youtube have been fixed or improved, and everything is high quality and easy to use. I'm very happy with this unit and the price I paid for it.I normally don't write lengthy reviews like this, but I think this trend of inexpensive but high quality equipment (like the Rigol DS1000 series scopes) is really important for students and beginners like myself. This power supply really stands out to me as a great bang for the buck for an engineering student on a budget.

The knob (which is a rotary encoder that is not continuous but has bumps, not sure what you call that) makes a clicking sound when you increment or decrement (is that a word?) a digit, which feels really nice.

Inputting a voltage/current is really quick and easy despite there being no keypad.

Cool stuff.

Since it connects with a COM port, I'm sure you could get it to work with your own Labview programs, matlab stuff, or any other applicable software. I used the USB port (cable is included), but there's also a serial port which is cool.

My one complaint with the software is that the buttons for quickly recalling set voltages and currents are filled with some seemingly random values and don't save what you change them to when exiting the program.

But who cares, you're probably using your own leads anyways.

Overall, there's nothing I can fault with this unit. It seems like all the things I've seen in reviews on youtube have been fixed or improved, and everything is high quality and easy to use. I'm very happy with this unit and the price I paid for it.

I normally don't write lengthy reviews like this, but I think this trend of inexpensive but high quality equipment (like the Rigol DS1000 series scopes) is really important for students and beginners like myself. This power supply really stands out to me as a great bang for the buck for an engineering student on a budget.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality, feature-rich supply for a great price

This power supply has a very impressive amount of functionality and quality for the price. The voltage and current displayed on the readout is very accurate. I checked with a multimeter from 10mV to 31V and also at various steps in voltage. Same for current from 10s of milliamps up to the max.

So it's accurate and 30V 5A is more than enough for many projects, no complaints there. In terms of user interface, I think it's fantastic. Really happy with how simple and intuitive it is. There are no weird additional functions that require you to hold buttons and input something; all the functionality is clear and you don't have to read the user manual to understand what the buttons do.

The memory functions work very simply; whatever memory setting you have selected, any changes you make are stored there.

I purchased this DC power supply specifically to build a silver refining electrolysis machine to refine old junk silver into .999 pure silver. So far I have refined over 200 oz's of silver with this power supply and have not any issues or problems. I ran this unit non stop for over a week and it worked flawlessly. After a week of use it was still cool to the touch and started right back up on the next batch of silver I refined. The unit arrived very quickly and was very well packaged. The box looked like it just came off the assembly line and right to my door! There are many different power supplies that are available, but I think this is probably the best value for your buck.
Some of the feature I like with this power supply:

1. The best feature is that it has a cooling fan at the rear of the supply. This really helps keep internal components cool which is important if you are using it in a warm area with limited cooling. The fan is very quiet and will automatically adjust fan speed depending on the power load. This is one of the main reasons I chose this supply over many others.
2. The unit is easy to operate and comes with a decent instruction manual written in English.
3. The display is bright and easy to read your setting even from a distance.
4. The knobs to adjust the power settings feel good and solid.
5. It has a grounding connection which some other supplies do not have.
6. The unit shipped with alligator clips (3 feet)
7. Heavy duty single channel power supply with continuously adjustable voltage and current.
8. 120/220v selector switch in the back of the unit.

If you are in the market for an adjustable DC power supply I highly suggest you give this product a try, you won't be disappointed! I expect that it will last for a very long time as it has proven itself already many times.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Easy to use compact supply for the hobbyist bench. Actual dimensions are approximately 10.5" deep X 4.4" wide X 6.5" high... dimensions stated in the description are incorrect (may be that of the box).
I bought 2 of the supplies so that I might work with circuits that require + and - voltages. The two units stack nicely and take up very little space on the corner of my workbench.

While voltage metering is quite accurate, current readings may be a bit off on some units. In one test, I set up a 1 amp current limit on both supplies, and connected them to 3 ohm 5% power resistors. Current delivered to the two resistors, measured with a Tektronix DMM850 was quite close to the set value, measuring 1.003 amps from the upper supply in my stack and 0.994 amps from the lower unit...very accurate indeed! However, the *current reading* of the upper unit was not as accurate, indicating that the supply was putting out 1.062 amps, while the bottom unit was very close at an indicated 1.001 amps. This is perhaps not quite "lab grade" performance, but good enough for most hobby applications.

I did discover one weak point in the protection scheme of the unit... while it is well protected against shorts and over temperature conditions, one must be very careful not to reverse connect to a battery capable of delivering much current. When charging and testing an 18 volt B&D battery pack, I accidentally reverse connected one unit and killed the output... it did not reset even with a power off cycle. A protection diode in the output of the supply had shorted, which did indeed protect the supply from distruction. After the diode, a 1N5480 was replaced, the unit functioned perfectly, but I might not have been so fortunate if I had reverse connected the supply to a higher current source, such as an automobile battery. Fyi, the protection diode is located on the front board very near the output terminals, so about 10-15 minutes of disassembly is required to get to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it, ignore reviews

Can’t explain the reviews you’ll find for this brand. Let me say, this model is NOT loud at all, preforms to spec, has no odor, does not jump values quickly when setting the dial, and is dead simple to use. I wish I didn’t spend 2 weeks reading reviews and comparing models. This os a solid mid-level linear power supply in an Amazon selection of mostly switching power supplies. I use this on RF and microcontroller projects and I’m not seeing any major interference

The only con is somebody mustve made a mistake on this power cord. As others have noticed, it’s not a good fit and falls out. I’ve had to tape it on and will be buying a different cord for it. Hopefully its just the cord and not the actual socket that has weird dimensions (depth seems too short)

*UPDATE* bought the first power cord I could find, like the ones you use for a PSU, fit perfectly. Something very off about the one that comes with this unit, it’s about 1/4 inch too long, non-standard

5.0 out of 5 stars A good power supply

This is a decent bench power supply bought to replace an elderly linear supply that had failed. I haven't tested it to the limits of its stated spec but have now used it a fair bit at lower supply currents, and I am very happy with it.
A push button selects output voltage or current limit with a single control to adjust the levels. That's my only quibble: if the control is inactive for a few seconds after adjustment the control is deselected - a little longer would have, for me, been better. On the whole though it is a good PSU.

The KORAD unit I received exhibited great performance, especially against its peers at similar price ranges.

The first thing you'll notice when you pull it out of the box is, it's quite heavy. This is a good thing, the transformer inside the unit looks to be of good quality.

The second thing you'll notice, if you apply an electronic load drawing the full 5 amps, is the unit will switch to constant current at 5A. The voltage may drop a little bit (few millivolts) but that's no big deal... you shouldn't run bench power supplies at full load anyways.

I and a coworker tested the unit with an oscilloscope and a precise, calibrated electronic load. The voltage readout on the unit under load was bang on. The current readout was bang on. And the ripple, at ~30V drawing the full 5 amps, the maximum power for the unit... was 10 millivolts.

This is amazing for such a low cost variable power supply. 10 millivolts ripple will allow you to power many high speed electronic systems with it, and it's cheap enough you can have multiple around to provide for various rails. Of course, it is outside the spec of some parts, but if you're developing with those parts, you will have the budget for more expensive gear to fit that spec.

All in all, this is a VERY impressive hobbyist bench power supply, and I hope the quality never falls. They can charge double for this device, and it would still be worth it. I'm using it to power the 24v logic of the Teknic Clearpath SC servo system, and it works very well for that purpose.

Having worked with many analogue PSUs in the past I really wanted a digital one and KORAD had two awesome models: The "KD3005P" with the jog and the 4 memories and this one. But before I decided to make this order I read about this company's PSUs*. I also watched some video-reviews on YouTube.
Almost everybody had some kind of issue with all pro KORAD models, which is kind of absurd. I wanted to examine one myself and the one with the less "problems" was this model "KD3005P" with the two push and turn buttons.
Also I wanted a connection with my PC so I could have a log of my work with it.
This model is really awesome! No complaints by me -whatsoever- . I'm very satisfied with it in many ways..

It has a good programming inside which helps a technician (among others) a lot.
This model has a three way use.
First of all you can push the "Voltage button" and select each digit separately.Same with the "Current" button.
Second, you can lock your adjustments so no accidental turning will increase or decrease any voltage /current setting.

Attention! (The following will help a lot of users of "KD3005P" model):
First testing: You will notice that you can place your desired voltage power but when trying to adjust the current the screen returns to "0000".
The reason is because the PSU does not have any load so be aware that your current setting has been memorized by the unit but will not work until you put a load on it. The best way to test the unit is to connect a lamp (within 0-14V) on the leads.

Another awesome feature is the USB connection to a PC. You'll get a software that can handle the unit completely. Plus it has an 'ON'/ 'OFF' feature. Simply use your keyboard to set the desired voltage /current and press "Enter".
On the right of your software screen you will see two screens where you can monitor the voltage /current of your PSU.

Last but not least the unit has LEDs in front that can show you when your settings are "locked", the Over Protection Current aka. OPC etc.
For me it's a very helpful unit, and I'm very happy to have it on my bench.
I totally recommend it!
