Are You a K-Pop Fan?

Learn The K-Pop Lingo!

"Take a Peek into the Psychology of Modern Korean People Through Slang"-李宇龙, SM Entertainment-

“The Kpop Dictionary is a fun mix of common slang and adages frequently found in Kpop and Korean Dramas which will help provide a base for understanding that goes far beyond subtitles. As a YouTube personality who focuses on the ever-changing world of Korean entertainment, I see this book being an extremely useful resource to anyone interested in improving their comprehension of Korean Dramas and Kpop.”- Stephanie Ishler, Hallyu Back -

"This will be the Bible of Korean Culture"-Seunghyun Shin, Funtastic Korea Learn to understand what your favorite K-Pop idols are saying on MV, TV Shows, and Dramas!

Have you just started following K-Pop and K-Drama but can't understand the lingo?

Do you want to be a part of K-Pop and K-Drama fandom but can't blend in because you don't know the jargon everyone is using? Or are you an experienced K-Pop / K-Drama fan wanting to expand your vocabulary?

Then this book is for you! The K-Pop Dictionary is designed to help you learn the most up-to-date vocabulary used in K-Pop, TV shows, and K-Dramas.

As the title of this book suggests, this is not an ordinary dictionary: It is specifically designed to teach you what the words mean in a K-Pop and K-Drama context, because without knowing the cultural background of the words, they are just a bunch of enigmas. So we have included essential information such as where the words originated, plus where, when, and how they are used. Without this, you are missing out on all the news and updates other fans are talking about!

We have also included real life examples of their use. You will gain a thorough understanding of the vocabulary, its nuances, and its origins. You can use this as a quick reference book any time you run into K-Pop and K-Drama lingo, or as a study reference by utilizing the conversation examples included on every page.

Whatever your goal, this is a great way to expand your K-Pop and K-Drama knowledge; your window into the fascinating world of Korean culture! A dictionary of honest human interaction, Korean pop culture, and everyday K-POP life.

A resource for language learners confused by real-world Korean, and a tool to help you understand the world of a K-POP fan. But more importantly, great entertainment for everyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Its alright
By Ahgase×JB on March 29, 2018
Tbh i didnt expect much out of a 5 dollar book. The part i dont like is the kpop phrase because it will literally just give you an English word and count it as one of those 500 words in the book. Example tells you the names of music shows and charts like Gaon. And the examples are really koreaboo cringey bulit. Like it will use english and randomly insert the romanized word in the sentence. Ex "its a gogooma drama." IMO if you write a korean word it should be in hangul not romanized. If you just want to learn a few korean words then go ahead and buy this book but if you really want to learn korean I suggest you save your 5 bucks and buy some other book that will actually help you. Also who ever spelled check didnt do a good job. Idk if its just my book but some "to" are spelled as just "t."

4.0 out of 5 stars You're here because of BTS, aren't you? 😂
By quaylacansing on August 21, 2019
I won't judge you, cause I was here for the same exact thing. XD I began learning Korean in July 2018. So it's been a bit over a year now. When I 1st saw this, I figured it'd be convenient as a new fan of Kpop artists, but I wasn't sure about it as there seemed to be other books like this. However, one of my fave YouTubers (Whitneybae) whose lived in South Korea for almost 10 years recommended this and its sequel & speaks the language pretty well herseld, so I trusted her.
The book is a pretty nice book! If you're fresh in the Kpop world, it has clean explanations of words commonly heard from Kpop stars, and naturally, words/phrases in Korean in general. If you're new to Kpop or studying Korean, it's not a bad buy (especially if you fit both). My only problem with it is that I feel like the few English words/phrases weren't necessary to add due to them existing outside of Kpop since forever (ex: Fan service, OST, manner hands, etc). There's not a lot of them tho, so I can't really complain.
Keep in mind that this is literally meant to be a dictionary for KPOP. While you may learn Korean words written in 한글, romanized for pronunciation, and given a proper explanation, these are only 500, and are mostly related to the industry. While you can use this to practice writing Hangul characters and ultimately learn Korean words/slang, please do not expect to become anywhere near fluent with this book alone. It is convenient, it will be helpful, but you'll still need to find other sources to study the language - starting with the Hangul characters! Now, I wish you all the best with learning and exploring this music genre! 화이팅! ㅅ.ㅅ

3.0 out of 5 stars It’s ok. But that’s it.. JUST OK..
By Naomi on October 7, 2019
First impressions: MUCH smaller than expected. Cover of the book has a nice look and feel. Upon opening the book I was immediately met with glue on the inner pinning of the book. I also hear a slight tearing sound which makes me nervous that the pages are eventually gonna fall out of the book itself.

When looking through book: some words are song names or English words. Which tells me they didn’t have a lot of actually substance to put into the book itself. Kinda like they promised 500 but could only come up with 200 good ones that actually teach you something. The words in this book are also things people don’t say in normal life. So if you are using this book to learn Korean, PLEASE remember that this book is JUST slang and term used within the K-pop world. Don’t expect anything different.

Over all view: this is a very cute book that can teach people k-pop slang, but a lot of you will already know just by being a fan of the genre. This is a cute little book to give to the teenager in your family that is OBSESSED with everything Korean and has a slightly warped view on the culture and language. (I mean that in the most innocent way I can) BUT if you are a serious learner or want to learn something useful this is not the book for you. None of the conversations have any 한글! So you are learning in romanization.

I wish you the best of luck in you learning endeavors! Thanks for taking the time to ready my review!

3.0 out of 5 stars Honestly pretty disappointed
By Woods on June 11, 2020
It's not as if I was expecting this to be an actually dictionary full of deep knowledge or anything, but there are whole section of this book that just straight english. I understand that Korea has a TON of loan words from English; 100% understand. At the same time though, you should at the very least spell it out in hangul. For instance "Flower Boy" is a real thing and is a compliment in SK. In the book all it writes is "Flower Boy." In SK they say 꽃미남 (Gon-mee-nam) which literally means flower (꽃) 미 (beautiful) 남 (male); all this to say it's calling someone a pretty boy but in a good way. This book should be able to explain simple things like that. There are other places I think the book did a good job and I laughed at times at some of their descriptions so overall a 3. If you're totally new to Korean this may be a fun book to read while you watch k-dramas for the first time. However as a Korean student for quite some time, youll be hard pressed to find any real worth out of this book other than for mild amusement.

This item is horrible. The print was horrible. The book cover had a horrible huge white border across it and when you open it up, it’s a journal that asks you what are you grateful for on everyday ????????
