Now on to the toy: In robot mode Jazz is about as big as a regular Deluxe Transformers toy. His car mode fits solidly in my hand and I could probably throw him at somebody and do them an injury. Very solid, his car mode. He looks pretty good, but aesthetically I would have chosen white blocks instead of silver and gray. Especially since the little robot figure in the set IS white. It's white, but the big assembled Jazz isn't? That's just kind of odd. I'm almost tempted to get some other white blocks and put them in place of the silver and gray. The gray is fine, but the silver has some marbleizing. I like the fact that his tires are rubber, but I wish they would actually roll.
No mode uses all the blocks. In car mode you're not using most of the ball joint pieces and in robot mode you're not using the wheel arches. I actually was disappointed by this, since I can't put him in one mode or the other and not have loose pieces that I have to store somewhere else when I put him on the shelf to display.
I didn't have any problems with the instructions, I thought they were pretty clear and straightforward. The plastic is of pretty good quality and construction. The little people figures though seemed a little cheaper made than their Lego counterparts ... but I do like having the little robots. So cute! Little Kre-o Jazz now lives with his bros Legends Jazz and Reveal the Shield Jazz on the shelf.
Now on to the bad: The instructions do not lay flat. It's a minor quibble, but it's a really annoying detail, because I've got my hands full of Jazz parts and Jazz and can't spare a hand to pin the instructions down. I used a book. Still very annoying. They should have just stapled the instructions Lego style instead of binding them booklet style. It LOOKS better bound, but it's less practical. Then there's a red chair in the box ... but it isn't in the instructions AT ALL. I can assume it goes in car mode, but it's not explicitly laid out (which is should be). There is also a random extra sticker that also isn't in the instructions. I have NO IDEA where this sticker is supposed to go. Speaking of stickers? CHEAP, HASBRO, CHEAP. Lego has painted blocks ... Hasbro makes you apply stickers to get detailing on Jazz. APPLY STICKERS. Honestly, Hasbro, it couldn't have cost that much to PAINT A FEW BLOCKS THAT YOU ARE MASS PRODUCING. As an adult, I had a hard time getting these on neat and straight and undamaged ... I can only imagine what children would go through. Not to mention the damage the stickers will suffer from the amount of play children would put any set through. This more than anything really showed the lesser quality of this set of blocks in comparison to it's Lego counterpart.
Overall? I liked it. I enjoyed putting it together. I got satisfaction out of putting together a favored Transformers character. But ... but ... there was always those small annoying cheap bits about the set that put me off, like the booklet and the stickers. The stickers most of all. So I give this set a three. One star loss for the stickers. One star loss for the instructions, not only for the inconvenience, but also the extra random parts not mentioned in them.
