This book explores the suppressed Masonic and alchemical Gnostic themes that contributed to the birth of Christianity. This is an immensely productive scientific research program that continues in the teeth of pious hostility and scientific indifference.
Pier Tulip's research is immensely informative, including on the possible meaning of the claims of a historical Jesus Christ.
Since first reviewing KRST in May 2014, I have helped Pier to edit the English translation. I am not related to Pier, but we think alike. I have also written a preface to the book, which I reproduce here, in the hope that reading this review will encourage others to buy this important book and open up more discussion about it.

Pier Tulip and I share an uncommon surname, but are not related by blood as far as we know. By coincidence we also share some uncommon views on astral themes in the ancient cultures that gave rise to the story of Jesus Christ, views that are part of an emerging method of analysis known as astrotheology. In KRST, Pier has explained the astrotheological hypothesis that orthodox Christian faith can only be understood by seeing how it evolved from originally Gnostic teachings that have a rich and largely forgotten cosmology.
Pier and I made contact through the Truth Be Known discussion forum managed by DM Murdock, author of pioneering astrotheological books such as The Christ Conspiracy, Suns of God, Christ in Egypt and Did Moses Exist? These works present a remarkable array of coherent information about the evolution of religion, bringing to light facts that tend to be dismissed out of hand by people who have an emotional commitment to traditional religious opinions. The astral content in ancient myth is not new or imaginary, but rather is a little-understood original feature of Christianity, hidden in plain view since ancient times, despised and rejected by the corrupted dogmas of imperial faith.
Astrotheology explores how Christianity evolved from widespread earlier beliefs about the religious meaning of the cosmos, building upon traditions of the large old civilizations that surrounded ancient Israel. Reverence for nature was pervasive in the ancient religions of Egypt, Babylon and India, but was deliberately rejected by the alienated supernatural dogmas of the church. An original natural theology was the rock upon which the Gnostics constructed the new faith of the common era, with its idealised leader Jesus Christ, but this natural origin in cosmic imagination was suppressed, ignored, forgotten and denied, as the church built its house upon sand.
The origin of Christianity in an enlightened understanding of already ancient mythical traditions is something we can only explore by reconstructing the evidence available from the fragments that have survived. The politics of faith and the accidents of history have led to the real origins of Christianity being largely lost. But forensic analysis of our sources can enable us to find the most plausible explanation of the materials that we have. This analysis leads to a picture that is extremely different from the traditional accounts.
KRST – Jesus a Solar Myth leads the reader on an intriguing detective search through the coded remnants of Christian origins. The celebrated nineteenth century writer Gerald Massey discovered that the Egyptian word for anointing of mummies was KRST, a term which it appears evolved into the story of Christ Jesus the Anointed Savior. The remarkable thing revealed by Pier Tulip is that the astrotheological explanation has been understood for centuries, especially within Freemasonry, as a deeply rational but hidden meaning at the centre of Christian faith. The power of the church and the prejudice of modern science have prevented these insights from coming to light, partly due to the disdain radiated by the dominant culture towards the magical and masonic fringe thinking that has carried these secrets. That simplistic polarisation is now rapidly changing due to the collapse of the power of religion. A new community of researchers are challenging the barriers that have shackled theology within the delusional boundaries of traditional literal belief in the historical assertions of the Bible.
It has been a great pleasure for me to edit Pier’s book, which is full of fascinating and informative details about the hidden truth of our shared religious and philosophical heritage. I should note though, all the factual detail here is contestable and will benefit from further checking on the reliability of sources, a process that is always needed to clarify the evidence for various claims.
The key message here, which although controversial is abundantly clear, is that Hermetic thought, with its roots in Egyptian myth, is a perennial philosophy that is at the foundation of both religion and science. The Hermetic axiom ‘as above so below’ means that our life on earth can only be understood as part of the larger whole of the cosmos, and presents the necessary key for the emerging reconciliation of faith and reason, grounded in scientific analysis of the myth of Jesus Christ.
