Why the KRUPS XP100050 Steam Espresso Machine?
Richer, stronger, and quicker than regular coffee; espresso is a perfect start for your morning or a perfect end to your meal. Known for its powerful flavor, espresso is a concentrated form of coffee made by forcing pressurized, hot water through finely ground coffee beans. You may love espresso and espresso-related beverages such as cappuccinos and cafe lattes but don’t want to spend a lot of time and money making them at home. In this case KRUPS has a tailored espresso machine for you: KRUPS XP100050 Steam Espresso Machine. An easy-to-operate, compact, 4-cup espresso machine that quickly delivers excellent espresso and delicious cappucinno.
Time-Saving: Quick and Simple
The KRUPS XP100050 Steam Espresso Machine produces espresso with a rich and complex taste in just a few simple steps. Start by measuring out the amount of water you need depending on the number of cups and the strength of the desired espresso using the markings on the provided espresso carafe. Pour water into the water tank. Then put the ground coffee into the filter holder using the included measuring spoon. One full measuring spoon is the amount needed for one espresso. Fit the filter holder into the appliance, place a cup or the carafe under the machine and turn the selector knob to ‘espresso’. After 3 to 4 minutes your espresso will be ready for you to enjoy.
Space-Saving: Compact Design
The KRUPS XP100050 Steam Espresso Machine is one of the smallest espresso machines on the market. It is ideal for people who want to have an espresso machine next to their irreplaceable coffee maker, or for students who love the great taste of coffee. This espresso machine is the perfect gift for family, friends, or oneself.
Money-Saving: Make Your Favorite Speciality Drink at Home
If spending a lot of money on lattes and cappuccinos in coffee shops is part of your routine, the KRUPS XP100050 Steam Espresso Machine will change your life. You can froth your milk in seconds and use it to make a delicious cappuccino, creamy latte or mocha, thanks to the efficient steam nozzle. Enjoy a wide variety of espresso-based drinks at home.

So, if you want to enter the home espresso arena, this Krups is hard to beat. In time you may want something mo' fancy and you could move up to an Altar To Espresso if your kitchen is big enough for something just short of a Starbucks machine.
I leave the machine on for a few minutes after brewing is completed, allowing the used coffee "puck" to harden, as it will come right out in one piece with a light tap. The easy to clean lower tray is great. The XP1000 works much better than the older model 1020 that exploded and blew coffee grounds all over the house because of a faulty pressure relief valve. You don't have to hide behind the couch anymore while using this new model, as they upgraded the relief valve. The XP 1000 really makes great Jo with fresh Arrowhead Bottled Water, a super fine grind of premium dark roast beans, and a light tamp down. One little bad thing, the small plastic retainers for the carafe lid break off after time, but it still stays in place. There is no auto shut off, so be sure and turn it off before leaving the house. The older style 1505 carafe had a nice hinged lid, but the handles were weak and broke easily. I am so addicted to this machine, I keep one brand new machine and two spare carafes on hand... if it were to break and I had no spare it would be..THE END OF THE WORLD! For the price this is best Compact Espresso Machine that I have ever used. I love it and have been very satisfied with it's dependability, ease of use and great espresso coffee variants it produces. Update #2: I was recently noticing an unusual difference in time of brewing, it was becoming very slow......then even slower. I decided to do an "autopsy" and tear it down after ordering another spare. I now know this machine inside and out. If you own one and it begins to take more and more time to brew and steam escapes from the lid you have a problem. It is absolutley a MUST to decalcify these machines regularly with the recomended solution. There is a valve behind the Function knob..deep inside and very difficult to get to. It can become clogged easily and cause slow brew times and overheating. I managed to completely dissassemble and reassemble this unit, after a sound cleaning with Limeaway and compressed air. I now have another working spare for emergencies and/or parts. Life expectancy on the XP1000 is...2-3 years depending on the hardness and mineral content of your water and how often you decalcify.
Now, it works correctly every 3rd or 4th attempt, but usually loses quite a bit of coffee/water as just steam. Troubleshot it, cleaned it several times and different ways, tamped the coffee both more and less (several times each) to determine what causes it...to no avail. At $59.95, I'm not exactly disappointed, but it's a far cry from the $200 Krups pump machine this replaced. That sucker lasted more than a decade.
Well the answer is definitely NOT.
The espresso holder leaked water the very first use!
Let's say if this was a manufacturing flaw that can be fixed, my biggest issue with this unit is the milk frother. The nozzle is u fortunately fixed and is located in very unsuitable location. You just can't have regular coffee cub underneath it.
Lastly the espresso, steam and off switch is very hard to turn and it has NO option to let the water heat up at good temperature before the start of espresso or frother. This was a deal killer for me and just the bad design. So I had to return the unit right after the first use.
Still looking for decent espresso machine that does the job and don't break in 6 months under 150 bucks.
This was purchased for my college aged daughter as a Christmas gift. The machine is very compact in size and is great for those with smaller kitchens or limited counter space. She's in a very tiny New York apartment and this fit into her petite sized kitchen just perfectly. She reports it makes top notch espresso and is comparable in quality to what a higher priced machine would make. She works as a barista in a known coffee store and knows good coffee! I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable machine that delivers great espresso.
