Revisiting the greatest hits of French chanteuse Edith Piaf, this album is central to Patricia Kaas tribute to the legendary singer!

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Edith Piaf s passing, this release comes just in time for the holidays! Features some of Piaf s most evocative titles, remixed by young French electronic artists under the direction of Fabrice Brovelli and Christophe Caurret, who produced Woodkid, The Shoes, and Yuksek.

This CD is a great effort of both voice, music and powerful production. The sensual and smoky voice of Kaas is extraordinary. Along each song of this CD you feel that these songs are brand new and belong to her. No imitations and copying of Piaf's way of singing like other artist did in the past ( like Dion , Matthiew and others). Abel Korzenowski music is majestic and magical. The show at Carnegie hall was so unique and powerful. Carnegie's strict rules regarding any additional decor left Kaas alone on a huge stage which she dominated perfectly with her presence and performance. Her voice, even deeper than Piaf and more powerful than the studio album itself is just fascinating.
Great Album, if you like Piaf's songs or not you will live this work.

This interpretation of Piaf is unique, and very beautiful. To compare it to Piaf would be apples and oranges, since the 2 singers are so different. Patricia Kaas's versions of these songs are rather lyrical, with a lot of swelling symphonic music in the background. Some of the songs are also done in a minor key. She also slows down a lot of the melodies. But this is Kaas in top form. If you love Patricia Kaas, you will love this album.

During the last 10 years, I have listened and greatly enjoyed nearly all of Patricia Kaas's CDs, including
many live ones; during these years, her excellent voice and superb French diction have accompanied me
through my studies of the French language. Now it is interesting to return to her with this latest CD and
find out that her voice has matured still, being now somewhat darker-hued and thicker than before, but still as
strong and impressive as ever.

This CD consists mostly of re-interpretations of classic Edith Piaf songs (or chansons, as they really
should be called). There is one song (Avec le soleil) that sounds entirely new to me, plus two purely
orchestral instrumental pieces. Throughout the CD, PK is accompanied by - surprise! - the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra, for which the songs were arranged by Abel Korzeniowski (Who? I've never heard of Abel
Korzeniowski before, but judging by the sounds on this CD, he really knows what he is doing). There is also
a rhythm section consisting of guitars, bass and a drum kit, plus some featured soloists playing string
instruments, trumpet, keyboards, accordion and the harmonica, one song even including the eerie sound of an
electronic instrument called Theremin.

The result is a CD of a surprising breadth and variety. Wisely, PK does not even attempt to imitate Piaf, for that would be quite useless - Piaf's was one of the truly great voices of the 20th century, and cannot really be imitated, though many have tried.

This recording is excellent--truer to Piaf than to Kaas. I love the expansiveness of Patricia Kaas and the Piaf material just doesn't give her a chance to be herself. But then, that's not what this album is all about. It's about Piaf--an homage to Piaf. And if that's what you seek, this is a fine album.

I first heard the music of "Kaas Chante Piaf" at my friend's home. While I never heard of Patricia Kaas before I was captivated by her incredible voice and the beautiful arrangements of the Edith Piaf songs. I'm not only here to buy a copy her CD but also to recommend it to anyone who loves great music.

I love Edith Piaf's music. Her singing makes It so free and vibrant. This effort by the incredibly talented Patricia Kaas doesn't really work. It reminds me of so many symphonic rock offerings. The orchestra is inappropriate to the mood of origins of the music. Kaas can sing Cabaret, but this effort seems drained of the vibrancy that Piaf poured into her music. Kaas has demonstrated that she can bring Edith's feelings to her music, but this comes off as a music school final exam; still and cold. Another reviewer wrote that a piano, a guitar, and an accordion would fit the songs much better. And throw in a gypsy violin and a solo cello, but not the orchestra. In the proper element Kaas could relax and sing these songs as they should be done. Sorry Patricia, this album was music for the peacock, not for the sparrow.
