While I have just recently taken a renewed interest in Judaism and don't know much Hebrew beyond the "Ana Bekoah" prayer of Kabbalist lore, I totally love these energizing, uplifting Hebrew spirituals. The East-West Ensemble of about a dozen musicians/vocalists gives each song its own moment in a dazzling light. The very short one-line "Aneni El-Chai, Shochen Meromim" is rendered unforgettable by the two female vocalists, who in their strong alto voices bare their souls to the Living G-d; it makes you want to belt it out along with them! All the twelve songs are interpreted with traditional Sephardic instruments, plus electronic keyboard, and sung mainly by male vocalists in the style of the country or region they emanate from, including Spain, Morocco,Turkey, Ethiopia, and more. The only suggested improvement for someone like me would be to add an album insert with the lyrics transliterated into English, so I could more easily learn the words and sing along, especially the longer, complex songs.
