Soap scum is a mix of hard water minerals and organic/oily components from soap residues and soils which can be a breeding ground for molds, mildew and bacteria and everyone knows it is tough to clean.

For me there is no better cleaner than Kaboom Shower Tub & Tile Cleaner for removing soap scum from showers, tubs and sinks (other uses listed below). You just spray it on and leave it on for 1 to 3 minutes and although the product directions say "wipe and rinse" and repeat as necessary, instead of wiping it I always go over it with a Scotch-Brite No Scratch scouring pad which usually takes the soap scum off easily after only one application. Then I just rinse it all clean. Works like a charm!

Kaboom Shower Tub & Tile Cleaner contains Glycolic Acid as a cleaning agent (as well as citric acid). These acidic properties are needed to break up the soap scum but can be irritating to the nose and throat, so I always cover my mouth and nose when I use Kaboom Shower Tub & Tile Cleaner. I always wear gloves, too, because it might irritate the skin.

Glycolic Acid is a naturally occurring acid found in small amounts in foods such as sugar cane, beets, grapes and other fruits. The United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved glycolic acid for use on the face and it is found in a number of facial creams and cleansers aimed at reducing pore size, blemishes and wrinkles. In higher concentrations it is used as a facial peel.

I used this on a tub/shower tiled enclosure that hadn't been cleaned in awhile! Like years! It had soap scum that dulled the shine off the tile and looked quite gross.

I had to work in stages, with more than one application, but this got the job done. After it sits a few minutes, you put in a little elbow grease, and then spray again. If this shower is kept clean, it shouldn't require so much effort again.

Another thing that assisted was a razor blade to slide against the toughest scum parts, and it worked beautifully. So the razor and this kaboom is a great combination!

I purchased a 2 pack of these at BJs, in a never ending search for the perfect cleaner. Various forms of Chlorox Cleanup are my favorite, but although they are awesome on the shower glass, the shower floor gets soap scum build up, and because it is textured, it is ver hard to clean - and bleach products don't really cut it. I tried vinegar after a hot shower - meh. I tried Kaboom, and all it does is leave a greasy feeling mess. It smells horrible - not clean at all. I love the smell of bleach - strong smells don't necessarily bother me - but Kaboom does. It does a horrible job on the shower glass compared to Chlorox Cleanup - it leaves little hard water type stains. It's okay on the smooth marble walls, but those aren't my problem - the floor is, and Kaboom just makes it feel nastier. I tried to find other uses for it - it is bad on bathroom sinks - doesn't really clean everything and the chrome bits look bad after using it. Where else would you use it? I clean a LOT, and I can't find anything this stuff is good for. By the way - the best soap scum remover I've found for my shower floor is Borax. I put it in a old parmesan cheese dispenser and after a hot shower sprinkle the whole thing on the floor, and then scrub the floor with a hinged grout brush on a 5 foot pole. Borax works great - and no bad smell. And it works on a bunch of other things, too - one of those handy things your grandmother probably told you about that most people ignored.

I love this product... for the tub and other bathroom surfaces. When husband brought it home I was skeptical (because seriously, what bathroom cleaner comes in a purple bottle?) but use number one changed my mind completely. We live in a "hard water area" so besides usual person cleaning related grime in our tubs and sinks we have mineral deposits from the well. Keeping my acrylics and porcelain sparkly white is not an issue with this spray. And the smell is great! I'm old school, I don't think anything is "clean" until my eyes are burning from the bleach fumes. Kaboom is helping me work through this addiction. It is kind of hard to describe the smell... fresh but not floral, clean without being antiseptic... I might have to go lock myself in the mudroom again so I can figure this one out. AND... big bonus, for me at least... the pump / spray head is well built so even after you have gotten to the very bottom of the bottle and you are tipping it awkwardly to the side in hopes of capturing the last precious drops of fluid while still praying it sprays the shower and not your face the pump handle won't leak. No lost cause drizzle! That right there is enough to warrant a 5 star review, right?

Well, not quite.

The other day I was finishing up my weekly shower cleaning when suddenly I felt that something was horribly wrong. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I felt the stab of 12 hateful eyes boring into me. Were I in a horror movie this was the exact moment someone would notice that the birds had all gone silent and the camera angles would have gotten extremely tight. Out of nowhere, the spider attacked. He was massive, at least 96 millimeters.
