Finally! It's so hard to find a straight-tipped pin brush! The ball-tipped pin brushes just pull at the dog's coat, splitting the hairs and destroying the coat. This brush is a great alternative to much more expensive brushes, seems to be holding up well, and is comfortable in the hand. I could do without the bristle side, but the pin-only was backordered when my old brush broke, and I couldn't wait. I would definitely recommend this brush, and have to many already!

Update 7-2-14: After using this brush for a few years, it has held up great! It is still in new condition after all this time of grooming a Bernese Mountain Dog (well, with a few hairs stuck in it)! With some other brands, the pins fall out over time. Not this one. Still recommending it and am back to order this and the other brushes in their line as a gift for someone who will be getting their first long-haired breed. This is a must-have!

This brush worked well but some of the pins fell out during my first brushing. My dog is a Newfoundland with REALLY thick, dense fur so this happens to most of our brushes. I did prefer this "pinheadless" style to others. It pulls out the undercoat easily & didn't seem to both our dog. I would recommend it to most people, I just think in our case a more industrial sized dog brush would be more appropriate.

I'm very happy with this brush. This is the only brush I've found that my densely-haired, puffy pomeraninan/poodle mix seems to tolerate.

I think the straight pins make it go through his fur more easily without scratching his skin like it sometimes did with the metal slicker brushes, or get snagged like the those brushes with the ball pins at the end. I haven't used the bristle side much so I can't speak for that yet.

With other brushes, my dog would always try to bite the brush (or nip my hand). Except this one!

The end of the pins are rounded and don't have the ball tips like most brushes- so you won't need to worry about the pet's hair getting caught between the bristle and the bristle's tips. Additionally, the pins and bristles are not as needle-like, compared to the majority of Pin/bristle brushes. Make sure the pet's coat gets detangled slowly, and gently. I highly recommended.

Exactly what I was looking for. It's a hybrid between the slicker style brushes and the regular pin brushes. The pins are big enough to not scrape uncomfortably but narrow enough to get in between mats and bendy enough to bend when they start to pull too much. The pins don't have pinheads on them, they're just rounded smooth. This is totally what I was looking for, and is very hard to shop for online, 'cause you can't really tell by looking at most pics whether they have pinheads or not. The soft side I can't really comment on, I don't use it.

Very well made brush. Good size. It fits my hand well which reduces the fatigue of gripping a smaller brush tighter. One of my dogs has sensitive skin. She shies away from the pin side of brushes like these on her legs. This one has rounded tips on the pins. It still cleans debris from the hair, but doesn't scratch the skin so much.

My shorthair cat loves being brushed with the soft bristle side and tolerates the pin side. The pin side is not coated with rubber or plastic, which may be a consideration if you have a pet with tender skin.

Nice heavy, well-made brush. Use it to brush my border collie cross who has incredible thick hair. This brush does a good job of helping take off some of the excess hair is very convenient to grad and use on a a daily basis. Decent price for a decent brush.
