We were looking for a wine chiller to replace the trash compactor that we, as empty nesters, no longer found useful. With as little trash as the two of us generate, it makes sense to move it out of the kitchen every other day. The idea of adding a wine chiller was appealing to us from the angle of freeing up refrigerator space. My wife likes reds chilled as much as whites and it turns out that several types of reds are best served chilled (see the article about this in Consumer Reports).
The chiller arrived in good shape with a box in a box and a layer of styrofoam surrounding the actual appliance. It fit into the compactor space perfectly but took a little more of the depth and width than the compactor did. We had our electrician install a "slim" box for the electrical plug on the side of the island to allow the chiller to slide past it. He also turned the electrical box inside the compactor space sideways in order to accommodate plugging in the chiller because the chiller is a little deeper than the compactor. All of that took about an hour and a half.
The temperature control seems consistent. It can be set as low as 40 degrees F. That's where we keep it because we also keep beers and soft drinks in it. For those reds and whites that need to be poured at 50 degrees, just pull the bottle out early or let the glass sit for 5 minutes.
I recommend the unit without reservations. Do pay attention to the warning that you should allow the chiller to sit upright for a couple of hours before plugging it in if it has been sitting on its side. Running it without the refrigerant in the right place can damage the unit.

I was a bit hesitant to buy this chiller because of a number of complaints logged here but then thought of the many times I've bought items on Amazon that worked perfectly and later deleted the email from Amazon asking me to review the product. If I had been sold a piece of junk, I would have been much more motivated to write a bad review. Given that this chiller is pretty pricey, I decided I should file a review from a satisfied customer.

Exactly what I was looking for to replace an old trash compactor. Quiet, sleek, functional wine colder makes my kitchen looking so much nicer. Very happy with this purchase. Like other new refrigerators, there was a smell when I first open this cooler. I left it open for a day before I plug it in, it seems fine now.

So thought I would write a review after I was recommending this to a friend that was looking for a wine cooler. Bought this in 12/2016 and it is still going strong! This is my 3rd wine fridge purchase. Started with a mini 6 bottle (only good for red really) and then bought a under counter larger on-size of a dishwasher (thinking 25-30 ct) that did not really get my whites cold enough (would have to transfer the bottle to the main fridge before serving). So when we moved to our new house, I really researched as I wanted one reasonable in price but still could get a good “chill” on the whites so I could enjoy right from the cooler and not having to transfer to get it colder. This served the bill! It’s Aug 2018 and still no complaints. This is under our bar, and very quiet. This was pricey compared to my last one (higher price and smaller) but it was worth it for the “chill” lol - so was willing to compromise.
UPDATE: I really liked this fridge but new update as of now November 2020 the fridge no longer chills - guessing compressor bit the dust...kind of like the year is going. I did love it. Did pay more but now have to weigh price compared to time it lasted...ah it was good while it lasted..lol

I was really looking forward to receiving and installing my Kalamera KRC-30SZB wine storage cooler. I bought it to replace a Vinotemp that had become too noisy to be installed in our kitchen. It's now the secondary fridge in the garage where the noise from the compressor isn't an issue. The Kalamera was delivered without damage and as far as I know it was transported upright. I received the unit on Wednesday so it was able to "rest" upright in the box for a couple of days because I couldn't install it until the weekend. I know that these units do not like to be horizontal and require at least a 2 hour period to recover from shipping and handling. The unit looks great - I love the blue interior "glow" from the internal LEDs (they don't give off heat) and is very quiet but its temperature fluctuates too much. I'm using a ThermoPro remote temperature sensor to monitor its temperature and it fluctuates between 53-62 deg F when it's set to an ideal 55 deg. I think 9 deg F is too much. Wine likes a constant temperature/humidity environment - I'm not opening the door continually, in fact recently my family and I went away for a two week vacation so the unit wasn't touched during that time and when I got home I checked the max/min remote unit and without anyone opening the door it showed a min of 53 and a max of 62 while we were gone.
My other disappointment is that larger diameter 750 ml bottles of wine (pinot noir, champagne etc.) do not fit on the shelves comfortably - sliding the shelf in/out will damage the label on the bottle as it jams between the shelf above and below. I would vastly prefer to lose a row of 5 bottles and reduce the total capacity to 25 so its function would be more practical with various size bottles on any shelf. Its like the designer who drew up the original plans for its dimensions has only one reference wine bottle to use as a guide and it was a skinny, 3" diameter bottle of Riesling or Auxerrois and ignored the larger bottle of Pinot. A 3.25" 750ml bottle is a tight fit but still works but a 3.5" Pinot or Champagne is too big and will jam the smooth operation of the shelves and scrape off the bottle's label.
As I said, I'd prefer a slightly lower capacity unit that was more versatile and practical to use for all size 750ml wine bottles.
