About the author

Lisa tackles sticky issues with sensitivity and courage. Her passion for truth is second only to her passion for Jesus. As an author, speaker, and mom, she loves to mine the wisdom of the Word of God and impart these life-changing truths to today’s generation.
She and her husband Doug, along with their children, founded Frontline Family Ministries, POTTS (Parents of Teens and Tweens), Victory Dream Center (an outreach urban ministry church in the southern Illinois), and REALITY Youth Center. She and Doug travel nationwide speaking to parents, teens, churches and leaders.
After nearly losing her daughter Kalyn to a crazy case of sexual abuse, Lisa learned firsthand the dangers facing this generation. She and Kalyn are authors of "Unmask the Predators: The Battle to Protect Your Child." She and her 25 year old son Lucas are of "Not Open: Win the Invisible Spiritual Culture War."
Part of the passion behind Lisa's latest book "Like A Flood" (www.likeaflood.org) (www.Preparewomen.com) comes from a piece of Lisa’s story. While working on her Masters of Divinity from a hyper-liberal seminary as a young woman, Lisa encountered the truth that turned her life around and opened her eyes to the danger with which she was involved.
Lisa has been interviewed on national programs such as CBN.com, Moody Radio, LeSEA Broadcasting, American Family Radio, The Lighthouse Report, Women Today Radio, The USA Network, and more. View one of her recent interviews on LeSEA Broadcasting here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1ZZOWqcddI

She and her husband Doug are parents of ten children, grandparents of six, and make their home in southern Illinois.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2013This book is written from the heart - but wasn't what we were looking for - we needed facts on what steps to take and follow while this was a story of life and what happened. A journey explained very well.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2010Kalyn and her mother plainly, delicately, and straight forward revealed what happens to a family when the unthinkable and unexpected occurs within the safety of home. It takes you through defeats and victories as the path they traveled exposed something about themselves and the battle they faced.
It occured to me Kalyn never left the security of her home. As with "steal on steal" the family "stayed the course" in this emotional, mental, and spiritual battle.
Lisa living out in front of her daughter the reading and memorizing of scripture was the catalyst that kept them strong when "the going gets tough". It also gave Kalyn the strength she needed to overcome the mind altering abuse that had victimized her. They, also, pointed out how important it is to be sure of the kind of professional counseling that is needed in any situation. "When Love Gets Tough" takes strength, wisdom, courage, guidance, and a willingnes to research and know the enemy.
This is a must read for all who work with teens, preteens, and families with children who are approaching these years of their lives or who are already there.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2010In my fifty-five years of being a Christian and thirty-five years of ministry I have read thousands of self-help books and written a few. Family Secrets Search for Peace
Rarely have I come across a book that has the overall life changing potential as Kalyn's Secret. Lisa and Kalyn Cherry have written an expose' on an evil that is too prevelant and too often hidden...sexual predetors in the church hidding behind ministry.
Like beautiful Kalyn, the perfect daughter in a loving pastor's family, too many of our children are exposed to these agents of destruction and we, their fathers, mothers, and spiritual leaders too often ignor the signs and get into denial about the trap satan has set for them. Well no more! We now have a detailed 'red flag' handbook on what to look for as well a scriptual road map out. It gives new meaning to the phrase' no child left behind' as we see how they refused to allow evil to keep Kalyn in his grasp.
Kalyn and her mom rip the blinders off our eyes showing us a darkness we do not see and give concrete answers. Sharing their own guilt and confusion they open their wounded souls until we actually feel their pain and weep with them as they share the dark night of a families soul that lasted for years and yet by following 'The Plan' God laid out for them they walked through in glorious victory.
This book should be mandatory reading in every School of Ministry everywhere. It should be required reading for every minister, minister's wife, teacher, youth leader, every preteen child, every church membership class, every premarital counseling, and certainily every parenting class should use it as a study guide.
I want all of my children and grandchildren to read it. I wish with all my heart that I could have read it twenty-five years ago when a sexual preditor/youth leader stole the childhood of two of my children...but like Lisa Cherry...I didn't know. But NOW we can know. Read Kalyn's Secret it will change your life and save future generations.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2010A must read for anyone who has children as well as anyone who is thinking of having children. It is a guideline and source of parenting teens.
I have read many books in my life, but none have touched me as as much as this book. I shed many tears of sadness as well as tears of joy at what this family has gone through and overcome.
As a victim myself, I know all too well the consequences that result from sexual abuse. The guilt, the shame, the teenage rebellion, etc.
I wish that I would have had this book when I had my children. It would have given me the parenting skills that I needed to be a good Christian parent.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2013This book helped me, a mother of 9 to put everything in perspective. I have already raised five children, but the advice in this book will help me with all of them and in my own life as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2010This book is excellent! I am not an avid reader but I could not put this book down once I began reading. It was amazing to see how God used this family's story to help others equip for protecting their teens.
This is a book designed to give parents hope and specific resources to help through difficult times with teens. My daughter is one, and I'm planning on using the insights and resources as she grows up.
I am very picky and cautioned about many books out there (including "Christian" books) but this one passed the test. I appreciated the honesty of the authors as they talked about very difficult and often embarrasing issues of sexual abuse.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2010I couldn't put this book down as I read the engrossing story of Kalyn's desperate struggle for freedom from the trauma of sexual abuse and manipulation, and Lisa's valiant battle for her daughter's soul. I read portions to my husband aloud, discussing ways we can protect our own child from predators. Tears came as I related to Lisa's compelling and transparent account in the midst of an impossible parenting situation.
I'm mailing this book to a mom I know whose daughter is currently trapped in a deceptive sexual relationship, and loaning my own to my sister who has a similar story as Kalyn's, but with a younger man who committed suicide.
