With a thicker sock (Dickies brand heavyweight crew) AND the thinner athletic sock (Puma), the 12 fits perfectly. The 11 is too snug. However, with just the thick socks, the 11 is perfectly snug (which you want in boots since they lack the ankle support that laced shoes provide) and the 12 still has a little too much room. Since the boots are so warm already, I don't want to wear more than the heavyweight crew socks for fear my feet will sweat too much. So, the smaller or larger size could be right for you if you are a half-size - just depends on what type of socks you are going to wear. I went with the 11s.
I wear a size 9, the size 9 boot was a nice fit with the felt wrap around my ankle but was very loose above the ankle. I'm have large calves from running but there was still a lot of room which is probably great for stuffing your jeans.
My preference is without the felt. I'm a size 9, It is better to go with a size 8 for a nice fit with adverage to thick socks, or 7.5 for sneaker fit with thin socks. Put it this way, if your feet sweat, get the 8, if they don't get the 7.5.
For the price I wish I could have kept them the length seamed right for the size
But the width was like putting my foot in a vice if you have narrow feet probably OK
Also if you can endure till the liner forms to your foot Wish I could have found some in
A wide width Can't find anything on Amazon they sell medium sized width
With the liner they need to be made wider
I did buy a pair of Kamic Canuck felt packs that haven't arrived yet
