I get a lot of compliments on them even though they are so plain. Because they are a slim fit I think they are very flattering to the leg and that is why people comment on them.
The buckle had always been a problem for me. It kept loosening up and not coming undone but being loose enough to flop around. Then, just a week ago, it completely popped off. I thought I could fix it but with the hubub of the holidays I didn't get around to trying to fix it until just before Christmas. I could not repair it and was pretty dismayed. My husband suggested I see if there was a warranty and I went to the Kamik site to see and was shocked to see there WAS a warranty and dismayed to hear that it was 1-year and I had missed the cutoff by days.
Undeterred I sent them an email explaining how it had actually broken the week before and I thought I could fix it so I had put off contacting them and was there any chance I could be covered under the warranty and if not, did they have any suggestions for me on how to reattach it? This was sent on a Monday evening. 20 minutes later a woman responded and asked me for the style/color/size and my address. By the next day my new boots were on their way. I was extremely impressed with the very fast response (2 days before Christmas!) and their willingness to help even though I was technically outside the warranty period. Wonderful wonderful service. I will be buying more of their boots for myself and my family.
I chose them as a ~'test purchase' - not being sure how Id feel about the color, heel, and overall fit. They came to me at a really good price.
Oh my gosh what a wonderful surprise! First, the color. I think my eyes saw the shine in the picture and interpreted the color to be a light (cartoon pig?) color pink. But they are exactly as they read - BERRY. Think a pretty purplish, deep berry color (see my pic ).
Secondly, I am using these boots for function, not form. I work in trails which are sometimes muddy and I sometimes walk through creeks. I want the boots to be comfortable and keep my feet dry. (I do also want some of those cute rain boots that adorable for dinner downtown, but Id pick a pattern and different stype boot that). I was worried the heel of these looked like a fashion elevated heel that might be hard rubber and tippy. However, the boots are secure! You feel solid on the ground, and they have a WONDERFUL tread - not too deep but with excellent grip, which puts my winter Muck boots to shame. Yet dont get me wrong, they are also very cute, and I added stickers for fun. Who doesnt like a lady out in the woods in bright boots operating a chainsaw and lopers?
Im excited to give these boots a hard test outside, and Ill update the post for how they stand up. Oh, lastly, they are Made in Canada!!!! I missed that detail whilst shopping. Thanks neighbors to the north!!
The calf area is definitely a little tight; I would say I have fairly average-sized legs, and I can only get the skinniest of my skinny jeans into the boot. Ordering up a size should help with this problem. The area right across the bridge of the foot is somewhat tight, too, and folks with a high arch might have trouble with that area.
One thing to mention.. they are much more "industrial" than I was expecting. They basically look like cement boots, with a buckle stuck on the side. They aren't the cutest rainboots you're going to find, but they fit fairly well (assuming you went up a size) and they seem tough. They're also very heavy (heavier than my hiking boots, for example), but that is somewhat to be expected.
I've only been wearing them for a few hours, but so far they are fairly comfortable. The inside is not super soft, and it seems pretty much flat so there isnt much arch support. If it becomes uncomfortable with longer wear, I'll update this review.
