I bought this adapter to connect a pair of Apple 27" DisplayPort-equipped monitors to a Mac Pro that has DVI and DisplayPort outputs on the video card. One monitor would be connected to the DisplayPort on the video card, and the other monitor would be connected to the Kanex adapter which would in turn be connected to the DVI port on the video card.

The unit is small and aesthetically appealing. One side has a small, permanently connected DVI cable and USB cable while the other side of the adapter has a female Mini DisplayPort connector and USB port. It is very Mac-like in its overall appearance with rubberized cords, white plastic, gray rubber, rounded corners, etc. Installation is very simple; connect the monitor's Mini DisplayPort connector and USB cable to the adapter, then connect the DVI and USB cables from the adapter to the computer. When connected, a VERY bright blue LED lights up.

The system I connected this to is a fairly recent model Mac Pro whose video card has both Mini DisplayPort and DVI ports on it. The Mac is running OS X 10.6.8 and is reasonably up-to-date. The monitors are both 27" Apple displays with Mini DisplayPort connectors. For the first few days it was working fine, then I started having problems. The display that was connected to the adapter started flickering at random times. It would blank out (showing a solid black screen) for about half a second before restoring to normal. As time went by this got worse and worse; the blackout periods would last several seconds and eventually the monitor went black and stayed there almost forever. Curiously, the Mac never detected the monitor being disconnected from the system. So even though you couldn't see the monitor, the Mac thought the monitor was still there.

Purchased this to connect my Dell E6500 DVI port to my Apple Cinema Display. It was unable to provide a resolution better than 1280 x 720. Additionally, it flickered often and would sometimes not send a signal to the monitor at all. I returned it for a refund.

The adapter don't work with Apple cinema display 27 (mini DisplayPort) in POST phase (BIOS, etc). Screen is black. Only after POST, when system is going (Windows, or MAC OS), screen became normal.

I have 27" Apple monitors and needed to be able to use them for my PC as well. I use the PC for some motion capture work and 3D animation. This works exactly as it should. Plug and play. No config needed on Windows 7.
