From the Author
Kanika's Burdens was originally entitled "The Whites of Their Eyes". I wrote it in 2004/05 ( maybe even 2003). It started off as a script for a short film entitled Down By The River, in which my original main character was male and named Jeremiah. Grandma Lilymae ( my supporting character) has never changed. My creative process for Kanika's Burdens was sporadic, passionate and all over the place. When I worked as a substitute teacher, I'd leave for work two hours early and sit in a Mc Donalds and write until it was time to go to work.
After several rejections I decided to put The Whites of Their Eyes on the shelf and work on other writing/photography and spoken word projects. In 2011, just by browsing the web, I stumbled across a "Call for Submissions" by JB Publications. I changed the title of my book and submitted to JB Publications and the rest is history.

MOST OF THE CHARACTERS I COULD RELATE TO OR WITH. GRANDMA REMINDS ME OF THE SPIRITUAL OLD LADY TRAPPED INSIDE MY INNER BEING.
KANIKA REMINDS ME OF THE SCHOLAR AND PLEASE ALL TRAPPED INSIDE MYSELF.
KIMMIE REMINDS ME OF MY SISTER OLIVIA AND. THE MEN THAT COME IN AND OUT OF KANIKA'S JOURNEY. THEY ALL MADE A DIFFERENCE UNFORTUNATELY THE SHE HAD TO GO THROUGH SOME MAJOR HARDSHIPS TO REALIZE HOW VALUABLE EACH PERSON IS/WAS
LETTY SHE IS A GREAT FRIEND.. SHE LISTENED AND UNDERSTOOD KANIKA. TAMARA ON THE OTHER HAND. SHE IS THE FRIEND/SISTA THAT WE ALL HAVE IN OUR LIVES.
THIS BOOK WAS FULL OF ACTION. SUSPENSE AND EXCITEMENT. I LOOKED FORWARD TO READING THE NEXT PAGE.
I WAS LIKE ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. I FOUND MYSELF LAUGHING OUT LOUD. WHILE ON THE BUS OR AT WORK (READ ON TABLET).
I FOUND MYSELF SAYING OH NO SHE DIDN'T OR YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! THIS IS WHAT NOT JUST MAKES A GOOD BOOK BUT A GOOD WRITER.
WHEN READING ANY BOOK THE PERSON. SHOULD BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY SELF IN THE BOOK IF NOT IDENTIFY ONES OWN SELF.
AT LEAST WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO SYMPATHIZE OR EMPATHIZE WITH THE CHARACTERS. I WAS ABLE TO DO ALL.
THERE WAS SOME OF ME . SOME OF MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS AND SOME COUSINS IN THE BOOK.
I COULD VISIBLY SEE KIMMIE. AND MR HORN. I KNEW A KYLE IN MY DAY AND I HAD GREAT RESPECT FOR EACH CHARACTER.
EVERYONE IN THE BOOK BE IT 2 LINE INSERT OF A WHOLE CHAPTER. THEY ALL MADE KANIKA WHO SHE WAS.\
EACH PERSON WAS SIGNIFICANT IN HER JOURNEY. IN THE REAL WORLD EACH PERSON WAS A MUCH NEEDED SOURCE OF HER FRIENDSHIP. IN ORDER FOR HER TO TRAVEL THE JOURNEY CALLED LIFE.
JACKIE. YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB. I LOVE AND RESPECT YOUR WORK AND I PRAY THAT YOU SIT DOWN PUT KANIKA ON A NEW JOURNEY.
FOR I SINCERELY BELIEVE. KANIKA IS ONLY AT PHASE ONE OF HER LIFE. THINGS HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN FOR HER.
I PRAY THEY HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN FOR YOURSELF.
