I've been a big supporter of Kano for a while and bought this product for my friend's daughter, who loves Frozen. She's been entranced by the kit and has been excitedly telling her Mom and I about all the the she has made (and the things she wants to make next). I love how accessible Kano makes programming! My friend's daughter had never shown any interest in coding before, but it's clearly opened up a new world for her! Her Mom is so excited that she's getting positive screen time.

Says it is for ages 6 and up but my daughter is 6 and I had to do all the coding because she didn’t understand it. She can’t read yet and I couldn’t find an option to have the instructions read to you on the iPad, so that was a bummer. They need to add that feature for kids who have a hard time reading. She loved confirming the elements once i was done coding it though! Still playing around with it but I’m hoping there is a way for her to control the elements without coding it.
I got this as a gift for my son for Christmas, he's seven, so it was between this option and the Star Wars one. I thought that Frozen was something that either my son or daughter may find fun, so that's how we landed on this one. I went all out for this and bought a new tablet to go along with it to make sure the screen size was reasonable and the old tablet was too old for what this requires. Anyway, this item was definitely not geared to a seven-year-old. It is not very user- friendly, and the directions are nearly useless. Once you have it set up, and you are into the app (make sure you choose the right app), you are on your own, and it is not easy to figure out. My son played with it for about an hour before he got really frustrated, I tried to help him, and I wasn't able to figure out why we were struggling so bad. I think this product really needs to be worked with more, either more instructions, or maybe build up to what a kid can access so they are learning along with it. My nine year old got the Harry Potter wand and seemed a lot less frustrated, but that one also seems like they put more time into design.

Well I'd love to review this product but we can't get it to work. I purchased it because it was advertised to me as a Kano compatible device. My child has a Kano computer and this was advertised as an "add-on". Sadly it doesn't work with the Kano, it needs it's own tablet or computer. It says it's compatible with Kindle FIre's but oddly not with the kids' Fire tablets we purchased earlier this year. This leaves us with a Frozen 2 device we cannot use. We will be returning.

My daughter loves Frozen and has not stopped playing with this kit since she opened it. Incredible coding games that don't feel like homework. Thank you Kano, keep it up!

5 iPads, old and new and the app was just a white screen. 1 iPad actually loaded to registration and still was “frozen”. I checked all the iPads against Kano’s requirements and they met or exceeded them. I’m sure this would be a neat toy if it worked, but I’m so frustrated, mostly because my daughter picked this out and really wanted it and it’s garbage. Go to the App Store and read the reviews of the app before buying, a lot of people are stuck on a white screen. I returned it because I don’t want to wait for the app developer to fix the problem. If you make a piece of hardware that is totally dependent on an app, you better make sure the app works and works well.
I purchased this for my 7 year old, and it took us about 30 minutes to go through the activities. Each lesson has a pop up that explains what action to do, and why you're doing it. After the pre-planned activities, he went on to the creators section and started making his own creations. He needed a tiny bit of help there, but since we did the activities together, it was no problem. The main thing is to pay attention and try to learn as your're completing the activities. This way, if you your kid has some problems creating their own scenes, you can give them a helping hand.
The only issue I had so far is the BT losing connectivity on his IPAD Mini4. This could be a software issue on the tablet itself, so I won't blame the toy. We ended up using my Fire HD tablet and we had zero connectivity issues.

My kids just watched Frozen 2 and they like anything related to the movie. They are very excited to open the box, and all material including the instruction are good quality. It just took my 9-year-old a few minutes to assemble the kit. So far so good. But then after installing the app in iPad, there are some issues: sometimes Bluetooth connection to the kit was lost, or the App will just freeze, the drag and drop into programming panel is not easy. I had to kill the App on the iPad and relaunch it several times before we made magical snowflake work on iPad.
I would not recommend it as a tool to teach programming. But it makes a great gift to small girls.
1.0 out of 5 starsBeware: NOT compatible with Android!

This product is NOT compatible with Android! This is not stated as such in the specifications which are too vague in this regard. We spent about an hour with Amazon tech support who also could not figure this out! Kano's product specifications are that deficient even tech support from Amazon remained in the dark on this after an hour (when we gave up). Kano spent twice as a many words boasting about their apparent awards than they did on adequately describing compatibility. It is simple: Apple: yes Windows 10: yes Amazon Fire 10: yes Android: NO It may all just work fine with Apple and Amazon Fire Tablet … but mind you, only a Fire 10 is stated, so probably not lower! It is supposed to work with Windows 10. We attempted on a Windows 10 laptop … no success either! So unless you have Apple or Amazon Fire 10, don't bother with this product. We did contact Kano directly and they explained to us that they had made a conscious decision to not bring out an Android version! We waisted a lot of time with the above exercise which was a Christmas present which is now being returned. Luckily we have a robust 8 year old :-) Oh well, good luck and a Happy 2020 to all the non-androids.
I’m not normally one for product reviews, but this product is exceptional. Our eldest (6) has played with Scrathjr and a variety of coding toys over the years but nothing has captured her imagination as much as this. The instant feedback from changing variables in coding blocks really reinforces the learning whilst being fun at the same time. Couple of observations to be aware of, it requires Bluetooth v4 or newer, Mac’s from about 2011 onwards have this but the 2010 macbook air hand me down the kids use doesn’t. Whilst it works on an iPad Mini, the screen is a little too small to really get everything on. shouldn’t be a problem on a bigger iPad.
We paid around £30 list is apparently £80 which is a little high, anything under £50 is still great value

My daughter loves this even though she is a bit young for it, we have done all the challenges though and she isn't really ready to make her own creations yet. There seems to be a whole extra set of challenges unrelated to frozen on the Kano site as well though so we are doing these as well. I am happy that my daughter is showing an interest in coding and it makes me smile when she asks if she can do Elsa Anna coding.
Lovely kit. The motion sensor inside only works when it's fitted properly. The coding isn't very hard, but the app is a bit glitchy sometimes. Also, the coding panel is too small for all the coding blocks sometimes. But the concept is amazing.

The device itself is easy to put together and looks nice but as soon as you download the app the problems start. Registering wastes time and the app is really buggy and not managed to actually use it properly yet, just go through the same setup pages before it connects and then crashes. Whilst they list compatible devices, I would recommend you only buy this if you have the very latest devices and check the app first. Very frustrating.
