About Danielle Dreger
Danielle wears many (baseball) hats. By day she is a teen librarian north of Seattle, by night she is the writer of gritty and witty stories set in the humid hell of Central Florida.
Danielle spent her formative years in the Tampa Bay Area driving into neighborhood signs, breaking curfew, and writing bad poetry before moving to Boston to become a librarian. She now hangs her Tampa Bay Rays hat in Seattle.
Danielle is also a avid baseball fan, lazy gardener, occasional swimmer, and voracious reader. Sleeping is her superpower. When not doing any of the above, Danielle is chasing around her tiny tornado, BB, who has inherited her bad decision-making and good storytelling genes.
Before devoting her professional life to writing and reading and libramy-two-babesries, Danielle worked as a secretary, florist assistant, camp counselor, college radio DJ and station manager, bookseller, house cleaner, blogger, and travel writer. She was previously the Seattle Books Examiner for Examiner.com and is a current contributor to NICU Family Voices (the official blog for Hand to Hold). Her short stories and essays can be found in Cleaver Magazine, The Dime Show Review, Creative Truth Journal, 200cc's, Pinch Journal, The Offbeat, and Fiction Fix.
Her first YA novel, Secret Heart was published in 2016. She is the author ofTourism for Broken Hearts, The Ten Fantastic Fails of Rory O'Leary, and Bad at Love and the forthcoming The Way You Make Me Feel.

Blog postHi! Happy belated Thanksgiving. or Friendsgiving. Or Queersgiving. Or End of November. No matter what you celebrate, if you’re anything like me, you need a book to help yourself recover from too much pie, too much family, or too much Dog Show.
In honor of treating yourself, I’ve found some place you can score deals on books (mine or others you’ve been itching to read).
Happy reading!

Blog postHello, Friends,
Perhaps you’ve noticed that I’m missing from the interwebs and social media. No, my information has not be compromised by a team of kittens or hamster hackers. Rather, I got tired of consuming information that was often false, or made me angry, or even distracted. My writing was starting to suffer. I no longer cared what my high school nemesis or exes were up to. I didn’t need to see what everyone was eating for breakfast (though it always looked delicious).

Bad at Love (Oak Bluffs High Book 2) is out today in ebook format (paperback next week).
Lexi Hamilton is bad at love, but great at dispensing advice with her Magic 8 ball on her call-in radio show. She’s not the heartbreaker her classmates assume her to be. Ever since her mom died last spring, Lexi’s been quelling her grief by kissing strangers at parties and slinging soft serve at the Dairy Kurl. Blog postJust in time for Advent and the Christmas season, my first middle grade novel, The Ten Fantastic Fails of Rory O’Leary, is out now! At just $7.99 for the paperback (and $3.99 for Kindle), it’s a certifiable steal.
Will Taylor (Maggie & Abby’s Neverending Pillow Fort) called it “Are You There, God? It’s me Margaret meets The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”

Blog postI’ve mentioned before how much I love short stories. Long before I was a novelist, I wrote flash fiction and short stories. Fun fact: I wrote my first short story in Kindergarten (and illustrated it).
Through the years I’ve been fortunate to find homes for many of my short stories. It’s long been a
dream of mine to put together a collection, specifically one for stories inspired by my global adventures.
And now TOURISM FOR BROKEN HEARTS has been born!

Blog postHowdy, strangers! I know the posts have been sparse, but that’s because I’ve been gearing up for a busy fall that will include a book of short stories (September), an updated Secret Heart (October) with a bonus Scott and Avery story and the first chapter of a new romantic comedy, The Ten Fantastic Fails of Rory O’Leary, (November) about a cheerleader struggling with anxiety, bullying and pressure from her mom, and finally Bad at Love (December), the romantic comedy I mentioned2 years ago Read more

Blog postIt’s been many moons since I popped by with any news. It’s been a busy few months- Dayjob projects, flu and then stomach flu in my house, lots of travel and of course a small musical you may have heard of.
But I’m not here to brag about Hamilton, but rather, I finally got my contributor copy from The Offbeat, from the University of Michigan. You can sneak a peak of my flash fiction story “The Squirrel and the Fox,” below.

Blog postBelieve it or not, Secret Heart will be turning 1 year old on October 11th! I’m planning a much longer post about what I learned my first year as a published author, but in meantime, I’m popping by to say that Secret Heart is on sale at Amazon for only .99! I’m not sure when this sale ends, so if you’ve been looking to buy it, now is the time! The paperback is also discounted!

Blog postI’ve fallen into the time suck that is summer in the Pacific Northwest. We’re blessed with days that stretch until nearly 10 p.m. (and dawn well before 5 a.m., yikes!) and when I haven’t been eating blueberries off the bushes in my backyard while pretending to do yard work, reading romance novels in the hammock, and walking in the woods, I’ve been furiously writing.

Blog postJune is Pride Month and to celebrate it I am donating all sales of SECRET HEART to GLSEN because I am passionate about teens finding a safe space in schools. After June I’ll continue to donate part my sales to GLSEN as I have been since it was published last October. Secret Heart (Oak Bluffs High Book 1)
Oct 11, 2016
$2.99
Avery Jennings is a punk-rock guitarist with a secret weakness for rom-coms and Taylor Swift. Her band, Detonate the Gazelle is ready to move to Austin after graduation, but Avery is having second thoughts. She’s fallen hard for Madison Shea, student council president with a douchebag boyfriend, after their orbits collide at Oak Bluff High’s inaugural Gay-Straight Alliance meeting. Even though it goes against her rules about crushing on straight girls, Avery relentlessly pursues Madison. Their chemistry is too magnetic to deny and soon they are making out in car washes and school bathrooms and holding hands under tables. Avery wants to take their relationship public but Madison is afraid of her conservative family’s reaction and that it’ll ruin her chances as Prom Queen. Their secret relationship is put to the ultimate test when student council vetoes a proposal for a gay-friendly prom and the club decides to throw a free Unprom the same night as Prom with Detonate the Gazelle as the headliner. If Unprom proves to be more popular than Prom, Madison will hold it against her and Avery will lose her shot at taking her relationship with Madison public. What started off as a love song may have just turned into a breakup ballad.

Ever since her mom died last spring, Lexi’s been quelling her grief by kissing strangers at parties and slinging soft serve at the Dairy Kurl. Senior year should be cake as long as her aunt’s cats don’t kill her and she keeps her frenemy Erin Burton from stealing her radio show.
When Oak Bluff High’s administration decides to sell the radio station, Lexi and her friends fight back. Lexi forms a temporary truce with Erin to help save the station. The more time they spend together, the more Lexi thinks about kissing Erin and less about how irritating she is, especially after Erin helps Lexi navigate the awkward reappearance of Lexi’s bio dad, a Hollywood actor with an agenda. If only the Magic 8 Ball could predict the fate of the station and of her heart.

The Ten Fantastic Fails of Rory O'Leary
Nov 28, 2018
$2.99
8th grader Rory O’Leary is struggling with her dual identities of a middle school cheerleader and the middle daughter of the only Lutheran pastor in a Baptist town as well as her recent diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder. An unfortunate underwear incident and barf tsunami during the Reformation Sunday service leaves her a victim of bullying and blackmail from her former best friend, Laura.
To complicate things further Rory must not only set up her older brother, Mark, with Laura as part of Laura’s blackmail scheme, but she must also portray Santa Lucia and sing a solo at a special church service in December. The prospect of a repeat puke performance sends her anxiety into overdrive. Rory’s mom believes that if she can’t participate as Santa Lucia because of her anxiety, she should let cheerleading go. If Rory fails at setting Mark and Laura, Laura will show everyone the video of her puking (and underwear) in church which could jeopardize her place on the cheerleading squad as the video could break the team morality clause. Add in a difficult relationship with her mom, new feelings for her friend Will, confirmation service projects, and bad luck that seems to follow her around, Rory is destined to have quite a few fails before figuring things out.
