About Karen Bedore
On a typical day, one could find Karen in the throngs of adolescent wonderment, trying to create harmonious music-making to these next-generation superstars. From the first squeaks of “Hot Cross Buns” to the lavish lyrical sounds of “Danny Boy,” there is much magic that occurs within the four walls of the band room.
After being fueled by many cups of coffee to sustain the never-ending insanity of middle school energy, she arrives home to the role of wife (to a wonderful husband) and mother (of an amazing little boy), cherishing every moment (okay, perhaps not the whining…).
However…
Secretly (well, not so secret any more), she is an undercover author, who laces up her trainers for a run to build endurance–not just for running–but to escape from this world to an alternate one, where history and romance meet, fueled by suspense–and of course–wonderful music.

Blog postI decided to go in a slightly different direction than what I have written before. The first draft is complete, the back blurb that I posted on here is far insufficient, but I’m proud of this attempt. My longest novel thus far, I am looking forward to seeing it in completion.
The short of it? Two parallel worlds. An ordinary woman that falls in love with an (unbeknownst to her) assassin that is locked into that lifestyle in a “game” he chose to play to avenge the death of his brother.4 months ago Read more -
Blog postA fitting title, really.
I was toying with whether or not I would write a third book in the Another Lifetime series, wondering if it was complete as it was.
“Maybe I’ll just leave it be,” I told myself.
A number of people wanted more Enzo and Aria.
“Then again, maybe I will write it…”
My beta readers really enjoyed this one, so I’m glad I did. I don’t want to give too much away yet, but be ready for one more journey to Then again.

Blog postSo I have another prompt.
This one was selected by my friend Dawn, who is doing this challenge with me. And as soon as I read the words that accompanied the prompt, I was thrown for a loop. Where would these words take me? They were so random! Ack!
Disclaimer: While the prompts themselves are not mine, the stories are, and I am hereby declaring them property that should not be reproduced or duplicated in any way without written consent from myself.

Blog postI am taking a step outside of my comfort zone and doing some writing prompt exercises with a few friends. I came across this book called “Write the Story” published by Piccadilly and thought it would be a good way to rejuvenate my writing as I work on book 3 of the “Another Lifetime” series (which, by the way, I am mid-way through ch. 5! It wasn’t exactly the easiest year, so I haven’t written much, sad to say. But that will change!)
The idea behind these prompts is that you mus3 years ago Read more -

Blog postI was very blessed to be asked to be the featured author at our 8th grade author visit this year! I have never done one of these before, but I have seen other authors visit our school, so at least I had an inkling of what to do–though, since the students know me already, I also decided to turn it into a teaching moment and make it more about the writing process than simply a plug for my book.

Blog postI run a creative writing group where I teach, and we are wrapping up NaNo this week. My students have various word count goals, where the “adult” version of NaNo automatically sets your goal at 50K–the minimum standard novel length (to my knowledge, anything under that is “technically” considered a novella.)
I will not meet my goal.
I am sitting currently above 42K, which to me, I can’t believe I even got that far, with running a band program and all the extraneous6 years ago Read more -
Blog postI know 20K is not even the half-way point yet, but after re-starting The Brotherhood for the 3rd time and having plenty of obstacles that have gotten in the way of writing, I’m pretty excited to reach this mark. I love where the story is headed, and hope to wrap up the first draft by the end of 2016.
Why so long?
Well, NaNo is coming up REALLY soon, and I am embarking on that journey with my students that are in my Creative Writing club. I’m quite excited abou6 years ago Read more -

Blog postWhether you are an author or a voracious reader, I am quite sure that dreaming of your most beloved characters is normal. Right??
Being in summer mode with a highly energetic 4-year-old, I have not had much (has there been any really?) time alone to write. The words and ideas are screaming at me from inside my head to escape, yet I rarely have a moment where I can fully lose myself in my craft and let them speak.
But I had a dream last night.

Blog postI received a message from someone wondering if I had any discussion questions for my books as their book club would be reading them. How cool! I never thought of including discussion questions, but came up with some that I think are pretty decent. You can find them under each book’s page on this site, in case you would like to ponder them yourself, or share in a group. Blog postMy FMC is the musician in the third book. A direct descendant of Lord William, she’s bound to have music in her blood, right?
So I had to do it.
See if you can guess what band I’m referring to. If you know me at all, it should be easy.

Blog postSo one day I finally let myself daydream a bit. For those of you that really know me, you know that this doesn’t happen much, if ever any more, unfortunately.
Why?
Because it scares me.
It scares me because I know I’ll never have the time, finances, or resources to do half of what I really want to daydream about, and that just makes me angry at myself for ‘wasting time’ that could be time used for more productive things…and I’ll fall further and further behind.

Until now.
Enter Pietro Cardinal Tedesca—the ruthless new camerlengo in Rome who wants to eliminate anyone contradicting his own personal agenda for the church. Under his orders, a Brother is tortured and gives up the names of the leaders of the Brotherhood. Lord William and his councilmen are being hunted down and killed one by one, bringing the Brotherhood to the brink of elimination.
Filled with suspense and romance, this final book of The Bard Trilogy will answer a most vital question: Is this the end of the Divine Brotherhood?

Not sure whom he can trust, Lord William also discovers that his love has disappeared after being reunited with a ghost from her past who wishes to steal her heart away.
And the only way to get her back is to trust his enemy.
