C. Edmund Wright has been observing and commenting on the failures of the Republican Establishment since 1992, first dealing with them as part of the Bush Quayle Campaign Team. He has been warning about the most over rated political guru of all time, Karl Rove, since 2000. The disaster of the 2012 campaign, not to mention Rove’s comments since, have suddenly validated Wright’s long held contentions. He has been right all along. Ensconced firmly outside the Washington beltway, Wright draws on his experience in reality as a businessman, husband and father – as well as his sublimely singular way of explaining cause and effect, to make his points. Telling stories that are punctuated by a sharp sardonic sense of humor and irony, Wright’s specialty is weaving seemingly tangential issues into his main theme. Mr. Wright nails it with this book. Not so much, in my opinion, because he wants to blame Karl Rove for the Republican loss in the 2012 presidential election. Rather, because he clearly shows that in order for this country to survive we need to have a clear, constant and consistent message that conservatism is our only viable option to maintain the liberties that our founders fought so hard to secure for us. If the Republican elites cannot or will not push that message we need to tell over and over that they need to do so, or we will replace them with someone who will.

It's tempting to call C. Edmund Wright a genius for his great book, except that the points he makes about the path to success for the GOP are so clear and obvious that even a modest mind can see them. The real question is why the "establishment" GOP has willfully chosen to disregard, even reject that path, beginning with the George H.W. Bush Administration.

Mr. Wright lays out a compelling argument, filled with facts that are well-known, but also often distorted or minimized. I cannot do the book justice in a review, but it's thesis can be summarized as boldly promoting the principled differences the Republicans have with Democrats, rather than trying to minimize or split those differences. Time after time, when the Republicans have proffered "safe, moderate" candidates, they have gone down to resounding defeat; while the 2 most successful Republicans of modern times (Reagan and Gingrich) were mocked and demeaned not only by Democrats, but also by a large portion of the Republican party. That is, until they led them to crushing and historic victories.

Why would anyone in their right mind prefer to abandon their principles and become a humiliated loser, rather than embrace those principles and become a winner? You'll have to ask Rove & Co. (or their shrinks) about that one, but suffice it to say that Mr. Wright does not share their strange discomfort with bold and aggressive campaigning, nor their aversion to winning landslide elections.

WTF is a fantastic companion to another book on a related topic, "Rules for Radical Conservatives." If each candidate seeking office as a Republican would read both of these books, and take their lessons to heart, our country would be a dramatically freer, more honest, and more prosperous place.

This book is a must read for Republican candidates and volunteers. Wright argues a strong case that Republicans do best when they act like Republicans with conservative values. Instead of whining about so called "low-information voters" he suggests we realize we created them by our failure to use the bully pulpit, allowing progressives to control the narrative beginning with the end of Reagan's administration.

The Founders would be mortified. I have been watching the absorbtion of the GOP into the Dems for years. We have a few leaders with cojones and we need to support them. Don't count on Ruio anymore more. What a disappointment. Follow Cruz and Paul. We need a good conservative voice to take back the WH, not a McCain or Romney. I am tired of seeing McCains face everywhere. He needs to retire. WTF tells te story as it should be told.
