Wonderful Security Program, Better Every Year

I have had the 3 PC license for the last 3 years (2010 to 2012) and had to buy a 2nd copy for one more computer. Very easy to install on Windows 7 Home OS. This was installed on my HP Desktop, purchased November 2011, with 8 GB Memory, 1 Terrabyte HD, Intel CPU, Windows 7 Home. Very easy.

From my first review:

You really don't want to wait to install a new version of the software because you have to update the databases from whenever the program came out -- like July of 2011 or before. Mine took about 8 or more hours with 4 or 5 updates. I think it didn't do them all at once. (This was in reference to my 2007 Dell Vostro 1000 laptop (1GB RAM)with Windows XP Home and my 2004 Dell Dimension 8300 (2.5GB RAM) with Windows XP Pro - both with 120 GB hard drives.)

What I like is the program sets everything up for you and you don't have to choose all of the settings but you can go in and do that later if you want. There are many features and programs available -- see the information on the Amazon's product page.

Never even completed the install...

I have used Kaspersky exclusively for the last 5+ years, updating it every year on several different PCs. I've recommended it to anyone who has needed a security suite and have done most of the installs myself. I estimate that I've installed about 25+ of the various versions of Kaspersky over the years. Always had a good experience and found it to not be a drain on computer resources.

That being said, I couldn't even complete the install of this version. Apparently this version kept detecting remnants of the previous version and would not allow me to complete the install until it had been removed. Except it had been removed and Windows showed that the program was no longer installed. I tried several different times, with the same results. I placed a call which resulted in similar frustrations and so I eventually called it quits and decided to go with Microsoft Essentials instead.

Is it fare to rate a product I was not able to actually use? Well, is it fare that it didn't give me a chance? Whether it was this version or the last, whoch was teh cause of the problem, Kaspersky wrote the code for the install/reomove wizard which failed to work properly.

Database Would Not Stay Updated

I got this product back in June because my Webroot product was expiring and Webroot was a complete waste so I thought I go with the reviews and try this product. I don't know if it is my computer or what but this computer is only a year old and runs Windows 7. As soon as I put this product on I notice I had to maintain it a lot there was no automatic scans or anything. I kept getting a notification to update my databases and I did and once it hit 100% it told me to do it again and again and again and again seriously?! No troubleshooting techniques help at all. I also notice this security was making my computer slow and I thought it was a virus so my first instinct was to get rid of this product. Luckily Amazon was nice about it and gave me a full refund I got rid of it and got a better security and would you behold my computer is back to its normal speed.

With most anti-virus software programs, they tend to be good one year and not so good the next. Some programs are better at detecting viruses while others seem to just slow down your computer. I tend to research antivirus software each year to figure out which program has the highest reviews and go with that program. I've used several different programs over the years, and one of the best is Kaspersky in my humble opinion. It has a user friendly interface, installs smoothly and works seamlessly with the other programs installed on my computer. It works in the background very well, updates automatically and offers several options to customize it's operation, or you can do the standard installion and not customize anything at all. The standard installation works fine for most users. From the main screen you can see any detected "Threats", determine if "Protection Components" are inabled or disabled, determine if the "Databases" are up to date, and see the number of days remaining before your "License" expires. This program has several added tools as noted below:

1. Kaspersky Rescue Disk - Allows you to create a bootable CD or USB flash drive containing a set of tools for efficiently detecting and eliminating computer infections.
2. Microsoft Windows Troubleshooting - Allows you to search for damaged and irregular settings caused by such things as malware activity, system failures or incorrectly functioning system utilities.
3. Privacy Cleaner - Allows you to clear your PC history of recent commands and accessed files, cookies, caches, logs and other data, keeping your user activity private.
4. Browser Configuration - Allows you to analyze Microsoft Windows Explorer settings from a security viewpoint.
5. Parental Control Module

I've had no false positives with Kaspersky but I have been alerted to several "Certificate Errors" on different websites while surfing the net. This program doesn't seem to slow down my machine unless I do a manual scan. There is a noticable difference when I initiate the manual scan, but I'll usually start them when I know I'll be away from the computer for a period of time. There are three scan options: "Full Scan", "Critical Areas Scan", and a "Vulnerability Scan". From the scan page, Kaspersky also offers a window to drag and drop an individual object to be scanned. Sometimes new software or online downloads will require you to disable your antivirus software to insure the new software installs smoothly. This program can be briefly disabled and then re-enabled very easily by the user for that purpose. For the money, this is a decent program. I've used it for two years, and I'm hoping for three. It all depends on the ratings next year. If you prefer to choose a single product and stick with it for the long run, I feel that Kaspersky would be a good choice.
