It so happens that this license will expire in a few days.
I looked into renewing and found the best pricing was to simply buy the most current product at retail from Amazon.
Kaspersky's product offering has changed a lot over the last 3 years and it took a bit of research on my end to sort the product lines and what the mean.
I ended up buying KIS-2012 1yr 3pk.
It worth saying that Amazon sells both KIS-Kaspersky Internet Security and KAV-Kaspersky Anti-Virus.
Kaspersky also has several other products intended for the servers of large(er) corporations.
For my small PC network the applicable kaspersky product choices came down to KIS or KAV.
While KIS and KAV are technically different products for all practical purposes KIS contains all the functionality of KAV with KIS having additional abilities such as anti-spam thrown in. Based on this I see no reason to buy KAV when you can have KIS for the same/similar money.
I noticed that KIS-2012 came out in the July of 2011. I would presume that means KIS-2013 will be released in a few weeks.
I was concerned there might be a "need" to wait for the next release before buying however a visit to Kaspersky's website shows they let you download/install the next version for free there is some mechanism to allow you to transfer the remaining months of your license to the new version. Its worth saying that the upgrade to the new version does not happen automatically, It seems the onus is on the user to manually do the download new versions and upgrade. While KIS will automatically download new signatures and updates it does does not automatically do major version upgrades for you.
The 1yr 3pk license took a little bit of reading to figure out. I'm still a little confused but I think I got the basics correct. Its my understanding is the moment you activate KIS on your first pc a 365 day clock starts. For the next 30 days you can install KIS using the same license key on upto two other PC's. Each of those PC's will enjoy their own clock with a full 365 days of coverage. However if you wait beyond the 30 day window then the PC that you install on will get a pro-rated amount of time. Its not clear to me if I install on day 31 if that PC would get 364 or 334 days of coverage. I guess either answer would be acceptable as both have an air of honesty/fairness about it.
My install went easy enough but it took several reboots to complete the install. One reboot was to uninstall the old version another reboot was standard to the KIS install. The install itself took 10 minutes or so. I have a 4 year old laptop running XP. It has a 500Gig HD with 1.9M files on it. The first thing I did update the AV signatures/database. This took about 7 minutes complete because the install CD was MONTHS out of date. After the AV update I then kicked off full scan. It took 4 hrs. In the end, the PC was clean (which I expected as I had an old version of KAV protecting the PC for the last 3 years).
I also took the time to go through each of the options panels and for the most part the default settings are exactly what I wanted.
Everything went smooth, and is working as I would have expected. I belive I have a "set it and forget it" utility here.
I am pleased, and if things proceed the rest of the year as it did today I will be buying KIS again next year.
Installation is easy and you get licenses for 3 computers. Best of all, you will see no performance degradation with this product. It runs silently in the background and has a simple user interface. I have never had a single problem with viruses, firewall issues, etc. I appreciate the fact that the options allow me greater control of its functions while my wife likes to set it up once and just let it do its own thing. The only drawback that I see in this particular version (Internet Security 2012) is that when performing an in depth system scan, it takes just short of forever if you've got a hard drive north of 500Gb. Although I have not experienced it first hand, Kaspersky has a version called "Pure" that can perform this scan much more efficiently. FYI, another ancillary benefit of using this product is that you can download the newest version once it becomes available all the while maintaining the original user license.
NOTE: If buying this product, do not buy it as a download direct from Kaspersky.com as they charge over $65 for their 3 license version of this product. Get the physical product from Amazon for under $25. Same goes for when you need to renew your user license...a new three computer license costs $65 from Kaspersky.com to download/buy versus $25 or so from Amazon.com.
The only negative so far is I can't get my Angry Birds game to work since I installed Kaspersky.
I get a message that says "the ADP runtime was unable to initialize". I can shut the Kaspersky virus protection off and the Angry Birds works fine. Can't leave my virus protection off though. I sent the problem to Kaspersky and all I got so far was a form letter. Couldn't find phone or chat support.

But I am annoyed at the 3-PC activation code...I wasted 1 PC activation by mistake and it is frustrating. Follow my advice if you already own Kaspersky 2011:
1. First UNINSTALL Kaspersky 2011.
2. Then install Kaspersky 2012 from CD (or download Trial version from website)
3. Then enter your activation code for the 2012 license.
Other annoying fact about the license: every activation of a PC removes 30 days from the license duration! By the time you use all 3 .... you will have 3 months substracted from the year!
So if you buy the 2012 version of KIS with a 12 month license, you can go to Kaspersky.com and download the 2013 version (and even the 2014 version if it comes out within 12 months of when you first register the software) of KIS.
Virus testing labs have been consistently rating Kaspersky as the first or second most effective antivirus for the past few years for Windows computers.
Kaspersky is located in Russia, and Russia has a lot of Phds in computer science willing to work 7/24/365, so Kaspersky has the most up-to-date virus signatures, with updates generally coming up a few times a day.
