And if you really like doing it, you can make it more strenuous by increasing your weights, adding some ankle weights, or better yet, doing it right after a more strenuous workout. Say for instance, if you just did some Kathy Smith or Cathe Friedrich, and feel like you want to keep going, then doing this right afterward will kick your butt without an actual overkill.
It's a great workout! I recommend it as a must have in your collection. I'm on my 3rd copy of this workout because I wore out two of them over the years. It's really great that you can still buy it brand new, but what's whack juice is that you gotta deal with a VHS tape.
It is very easy to follow the instructor (unlike some newer videos in the marketplace). The pace is right, plus it's fun.
Think about it. Tai Chi, yoga, and classical martial arts has thousands of years of history -- this leads us to think that good exercises never get outdated. I don't think exercises that are good for your body ever really becomes obsolete (well, unless you honestly think you can fast-forward your bio-mechanical construct in order to turn into some sort of cyborg in the brave new world).
Being a skinny guy, I wanted a workout that would help me get good muscle tone. This video definitely delivered! The video starts out with about a 10 minute warm-up. I found the warm-up to be a little too long. After the warm-up, the video goes into the aerobic interval segments. First you do the low-impact aerobic steps, then you go to your weights. Then back to aerobic steps, then back to weights, and so on... The steps in this video are very easy to learn. I am very uncoordinated, and after about six times I had the steps pretty well memorized. The weights in the workout really help tone your arms. The participants in the video used small hand weights -- 2 to 5 pounds -- but I used 15 to 25 pound weights as I progressed.
After the main part of the aerobics and weights, there is a section doing various types of squats. One of the squats were very hard on my knees, and I do NOT normally have knee problems. I think that section of squats should be re-evaluated. I ended up modifying that section of the squats.
As I progressed and used this video more and more, I had to modify the video to make it more difficult for myself. During the squats -- in addition to modifying the section of squats that hurt my knees -- I added weights and adjusted the number of reps I did. This really helped me to firm up my butt!
The video ends with abdominals. These exercises killed me when I first did them, but I as I progressed they became easier. Looking back, I think the abdominal portion of the tape could have been better.Read more ›

Best beginners exercise ever! Wore the tape out way before I got rid of my VCR. I know it's old, but I still have to ask - WHY ISN'T THIS ON DVD?!Published 2 months ago by bookwormgirl222
Really easy to follow and low impact exercises to start working out. The fact that Kathie Lee does the video is a bonus.Published 7 months ago by latingrlva
I got this tape free by buying pasta, I think.
It's a great interval work out.
No jumping, but you do use weights. Read more
This is a good, solid workout. Kathie is typical Kathie Lee in it, but I find her fun to laugh at. The woman leading the workout knows her stuff. Read morePublished on April 5, 2013 by Mama Robs
