Product Description

A battery can lose 60% of its starting power when the temperature reaches 0-degrees F. Cold engines require more power from the battery at these temperatures. These two factors make it imperative that you use a battery pad heater to extend the life of your battery, and assist in your cold weather starting requirements. Fully charged batteries have a significant drop in power at colder temperatures. The battery wrap allows you to have full cranking power regardless of the cold. The battery heater should not be used when the temperature is above freezing.

You might have to cut a hole in the battery box to get it to lay flat but I suppose you could skip that step and things would work out alright. When its zero F the top of the battery is comfortably warm to the touch and the sides of the battery near the bottom feel like a warm coffee cup. Car cranks like a summer day.

I notice a significant difference between when the vehicles are plugged in with these vs. without them. They are very high quality and I would expect many years of trouble free service from them.

Highly recommended and I would not hesitate to buy more if needed!

This seems to work really well. Note I installed this in a 2002 VW Beetle which has a stock battery box of sorts. I did actually modify the battery tray a tiny bit and make a flat steel plate for the pad to lay flat on. I also used a thermocube in conjunction with this to act as a sort of thermostat. The thermocube I used turns on the power if it is below 35 degrees and switches it off when it rises above 45 degrees. This seemed good to me as I am not looking to cook the battery up to hot summer day temperatures I just want to keep it above freezing when its -20 outside. That made installation a lot more farting around than one would need to do but I do think its important that you get it lying flat I even dimpled my tray a bit for the bulge where the power cord goes.

The car has the same battery as previous winter which is a cheap battery it works fine when its warm but for some reason it looses cranking ability really fast when it gets cold. Last year we had to jumpstart this car a couple times a week all winter long in northern minnesota stored outdoors. This year she just plugs it in every night I also added a big coolant heater and between the two that thing has started every single time without fail. On a -22F morning I measured the top of the battery at 36 degrees which was right where I wanted it. Above freezing but not cooking. Highly recommend. Thinking about pairing it with a trickle charger for next year then there is pretty much nothing cold-wise than can prevent this car from starting.

I would have to rate the item poor. I was only able to use it once. It overheated and shorted out. The weight of a battery was too much foor it. It was lucky that there wasn't any fire from using it. I would not recomend this style any one. I ended up purchasing a wrap around style and it seem to work fine with no over heating.

Have not used heater yet, due to improved weather. However, the package insert says not to use it on the battery, which is odd, since it is designed for this purpose, it actually shows putting it on the oil pan with a peel-off adhesive that is not on the product.

I have a 26Hp Briggs engine, garden tractor, 2qt of oil, stored in a small shed. The engine is the most, cold natured engine ever. I have struggled with it in the winter (actually anytime it's < 50 degrees) for six years! I stumbled upon this Kats heater, bought it and the 1" x 5" heater pad for the oil and have been in love ever since. It used have to go out and plug in two space heaters and a battery charger for 2 - 3 hours to get my tractor started to plow snow. Now I walk out and start the tractor right up anytime I want! Thanks for giving me my sanity back, Kats!

I purchased this device to keep the battery for my John Deere lawn tractor warm during Anchorage's winter weather. The battery sits on a simple metal strap, and so I had to add a metal platform so the pad would sit flat under the battery. Once I installed the warmer, it worked like a charm. I added a Farm Innovators TC-2 Cold Weather Thermo Cube to the extension cord so the pad turns on at 20 degrees F, and turns off at 30 degrees F. Now my battery is toasty warm when I start the tractor to blow snow off our driveway.

I would give the battery pad warmer five stars if it had a coupling at the pad so I could detach the cord during the summer months. As it is, I have to remove the battery to take the pad and the metal platform out, and then reinstall them next fall. So, I gave the product four stars.

Purchased this plus the TC-2 Thermo Cube for my Generac Generator. When the temperature hits 20 degrees the battery pad will turn on assuring an easy start if the power goes out. Generac sells a cold weather kit for $280 which includes the battery pad and oil filter warmer. Reviews state many issues this. Installation is problematic and the wiring is too short, plus it's expensive. This combination works just as well for a lot less money.
