Editorial Reviews

5 Stars: "Delin Colón's innovative children's book, entitled Katy Rose Likes to Say NO!, is a must-have for all parents. It is no secret there are many children's books from which to choose; however, this one is truly unique and invaluable - a great resource for parents!" -  Deborah Lloyd for Readers' Favorite

From the Author

A Word To Parents
It is perfectly normal for small children to go through a "no" phase. It is how they begin to assert their independence and influence over those around them. As relatively powerless beings subject to adult authority, saying "no" is often their first taste of power. This book attempts to teach children that such negative power, directed at friends and family, can have unhappy results leading to bad feelings all around, and that cooperation and positivity can foster bonding with and nurturing from others.
The Illustrations
The illustrations are cut-paper art. It is a technique I learned in the mid 1950s when I was seven years old, growing up in Roosevelt, NJ. I was at a friend's house when a neighbor popped in ... a teenager named Susie Shahn, daughter of artist Ben Shahn. She sat down on the floor with us kids, cut many pieces of construction paper into random shapes, and had us arrange the pieces into images on blank pages. I've loved doing it ever since. At the end of the book are instructions for you and your child to make your own such creations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Children Say NO!
By Norman W. Wilson on November 7, 2015
Having read Delin Colón’s Rasputin and the Jews: A Reversal of History, I was pleasantly surprised when she gave me a copy of her latest book, a children’s book called Katy Rose Likes to Say NO! Colon, a clinical psychologist, has done a wonderful job at capturing the essence of a two year old who asserts its independence by saying, screaming the word NO whenever it is asked or told do something. A parent who reads this little book to their child will be teaching a value lesson in how one should behave. Even though there is a lesson in values, the book does not moralize, making it a useful tool for different belief systems. An extra bonus is the cut-out-paper art work that graces the book. Colón, who is also the illustrator, explains how it is done, thus providing a hands on project for parents and child to do together.
