They LOVE sleeping and laying on these stones

My chins are obsessed with this cooling stone. I bought 2 for my 3 chins. They LOVE sleeping and laying on these stones, it cools them down during this hot summer. As you can see, my chins sleep peacefully on the stones :) I'm so happy. It is a MUST to cool your chins down during the summer because them chins can't stand the heat. When overheating occurrs, it can lead to death. So please, keep your chins cool down if you live in a hot weather state like me!

I don't even have a chinchilla...

...but if I did I'd definitely look for something like this.

I actually use mine for the AC adapter for my laptop, which sometimes gets blisteringly hot. My floor is carpeted and I wanted to find something insulating to put under it (was previously using an empty cardboard box). This does the trick very well! The granite doesn't absorb very much heat and the AC adapter is way cooler than it used to be. It's also big enough that I can fit two adapters on if someone is over, or the adapter can slide a bit and not immediately fall off. It might be a little pricey but it was definitely money well spent.

I have two chinchillas, in separate cages and purchased two of these to see how it would go over. Both chinchillas have different personalities, so I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. First off, we do not have air conditioning in our home, we do have the window air conditioners, but those do not cool the house due to the size of some rooms- but we try. Anyway, this product mentions putting the block in the fridge, and then putting it in the cage. At first, both chins didn't know if they wanted anything to do with it, but they grew more fond of it as time went on. BOTH ended up using it, one was more obvious about it than the other, but both certainly used it. One of the things that I LOVED, is since this is stone, it has the tendency to be colder naturally anyway, so even if I did not put it in the fridge at all, they still had a way to cool down if they wanted to. I highly recommend this, I think the concept is really great and so far, I am impressed.
The ONLY thing that I wish was different, is the shape. I wonder if round may be slightly less dangerous, perhaps it would be easier to avoid sharp edges?

There were some different brands available on Amazon but they were more expensive. I didn't want to spend fifteen bucks when I could just get this one. Gerbils Like It

We hit an unexpected heat wave and have no air conditioning. With one pregnant gerbil and her older baby daddy at death's door, fans and cold food simply weren't enough. They looked fairly miserable in between nuzzling each other and continuing to enjoy an active sex life. TMI? Okay, sorry! To see them sleeping apart due to the weather was heartbreaking.

This is just a piece of granite that you place in your fridge and then in the cage/tank and it retains the coolness for awhile. The package tells you to keep 2 slabs on hand so you can swap them out - while one is chillin' your pets aren't left waiting and getting hot again. The gerbs checked it out, promptly peed on it, then dad settled in happily. Mom not as happy with it. Urine wipes off easily and doesn't stain it. I put it in the freezer a few times to get it colder faster and then put it back in. It doesn't seem to stay cool as long as I'd like.

They sleep soundly on it - together. A bit of toilet tissue for cushioning helps them avoid having a hard surface to try and get comfortable on. I've kept and bred gerbils for decades and would recommend this. The slab arrived with no chips or broken parts. I suspect if you do get a broken one it will be because the delivery people handled it poorly. This might also be a good product for cats and small dogs.

Works well with small animals and is multipurpose

The Kaytee Chinchilla Chiller Granite Stone is not limited to to Chinchillas, but most small animals will like this. I currently have three fancy rats and the weather hasn't been too hot (~90 outside, ~74 inside), so it's a little hard to say if they love it or not.

Aside from its intentional purpose, this granite stone is also great to just keep fleece down in the cage. I line my rats' cage with fleece and sometimes they like to pull the fleece up and it becomes a mess, so this stone is great to hold it down because it's heavy and they're unable to pull the fleece out from underneath.

He rubs his body on it, scratches at it, and sometimes rolls on it. It’s the cutest thing. He doesn’t use it when it’s just been sitting in his cage, but he loves it when it’s fresh out of the freezer! Definitely would recommend getting one for your chinchilla.

I've had this for a month now and my rats enjoy using this on hot days even without putting it in the fridge. It does tend to attract pee, if you have rats you know they pee on anything with a smooth and flat surface (it's just their nature). Cleaning isn't an issue since a quick rinse gets it nice and clean. There is a smooth and rough side so I suggest having the smooth part up in the cage for easier cleaning. It is surprisingly heavy at 3.5lbs, no small animal would be able to move this which is fantastic.

The best part about this is that it's nonporous so there's no lingering ammonia smell unlike buying cheap porous 25c tiles. Yeah it's fairly pricey for what is essentially a slab of stone but come on, this thing will last years, it's worth it.
