Kaytee Silent Spinner Workout Wheel for Pet Critters (Assorted, Large, 12 Inch Diameter) The Silent Spinner, Large, is the wonderful, whisper quiet workout wheel for pet rats and chinchillas. Patented ball bearing technology makes these wheels super silent. This wheel spins on a plastic spoke to eliminate the annoying sounds of traditional metal wheels. The solid, but ventilated, plastic wheel has no wire spacing in which your pet's tiny feet or tail can get caught or pinched. The durable plastic wheel features raised treads for better traction and improved pet safety. Silent Spinners work two ways - free standing or attach it directly to any wire cage. High quality, two-toned plastic running surface is safe and comfortable for your furry friend's feet. The nut was somehow stripped. This wheel is also not quiet. The wheel was repairable with maybe glueing the nut back on. The nut is the yellow plastic piece that sticks out of the center of the wheel.
This is very poor quality.
Update: I bought a second one to replace the first that was unusable. It broke after 4 days. Not even four 24hour periods. This one was not stripped so I could put it back together.
I would highly recommend no one buy this product.
Pros: It doesn't have any spaces for my hamster's foot to get caught, it's fairly sturdy, and my robo hamster fits perfectly.
Cons: very noisy
If your hamster doesn't live in your room, I would recommend this wheel, but if the hamster cage is in your bedroom like mine is, I wouldn't recommend it.
I'd give it a lower rating, but the main thing that matters is how my hamster feels about it, and she loves it. She runs for hours every night, and sometimes she just sits and eats on the wheel. She's happy with it, so I'm just going to deal with it and find a way to sleep with that obnoxiously loud rattling in the background.
Update: turns out it was just loose! I twisted the yellow nob on the inside of the wheel until it felt completely tight, and now the wheel is MUCH quieter! I've had it for about 2 months, and it still works fine. Just make sure the yellow nob is tightened fully, and it shouldn't bother you at all.
Please look at this review:
I have purchased this not less than a week ago. My Robo Dwarf Hamsters cannot spin the wheel... It should be EASY to spin and should continue spinning. Mine does not do that. I purchased TWO silent spinners and I would say I wasted my money on this. Do not purchase. If you are going to purchase go to a store and check it out at a pet store and make sure the spinner continues to spin or should rock back and forth with no effort.
CLACK-clack, CLACK-clack all night long. For a silent spinner this is a preety noisy wheel. It's not the axle, it's the way the pieces fit together some how. I'm pretty good at fixing things, but this wheel is impossible so far. You can tighten the yellow knob thingy as tight as it goes, but it clack in the back, I think. Tonight I will try again ti fix it because last night we took it out of the cage. You can here it all over the house.
Other than keeping everyone awake, it's a good wheel. Despite the noise, I bought a second one because I thought maybe I got a lemon. Nope. The second one is just as bad.

Syrian hamster - yes, 10" size
Chinese or Russian dwarf hamster - no, get an 8/8.5" wheel elsewhere (Trixie Wodent wheels are good)
Roborovski hamster - yes, 6.5" size
Mouse - yes, 6.5" size
Gerbil - no, they should have a wooden wheel because they chew. An 8 to 11" wheel is good (Trixie also do good wooden wheels).
I've been debating getting a Silent Spinner for a while and am glad I decided to do so for my new Roborovski hamster Bean! It is made well with heavy duty plastic and makes no noise at all. Easy to clean design and can be free-standing or attached to bars. PLEASE BE AWARE that this size - 6.5" - is the minimum you should be buying for any hamster. In order to reduce the arching of the back and serious spine pain, if you would like to buy this for Syrians, you should get the 10" version. 4.5" is too small for any hamster, even Robos, the smallest of the dwarfs. If you're looking for a Campbell's/Winter White's (commonly known as the Russian dwarf) or Chinese's wheel then I wouldn't get this as they should have at least an 8" diameter wheel and unfortunately there is not an 8/8.5" Kaytee Silent Spinner as far as I'm aware. I would definitely recommend this wheel to any hamster owner IF they get a suitable size for their species of rodent!
I had also read if my hamster was having to arch his back in the wheel, it was too small and could cause back issues. I didn't want that, so despite this taking up more room in Reuben's enclosure, I got it.
It arrived promptly, I ordered on prime (like I said enough was enough) and with some quick, straight forward assembly, it was ready to roll... or rotate, whatever.
The plastic feels thick and the product is well made. My only criticism and this isn't really the item, is that if the saw dust comes from under the metal frame, and your enclosure is plastic, the vibrations from the wheel can be heard and stability is reduced (not enough to cause alarm but enough to vibrate)
Reuben loves it which is what matters and I can sleep. Now we are just two swell guys, living our lives again.
1: If you want to fix it to a cage, be prepared to figure it out on your own. In the end i resorted to cable ties, not ideal.
2: Mine becomes more difficult to turn the more its used, reason being that the yellow screw in the middle of the wheel tightens up as they run. I have to loosen it every day.
3: Whilst it doesnt squeak, it certainly isnt silent and rattles like crazy.
Shame as it looks nice and could have been great, although maybe i just wasnt one of the lucky ones. purchase at your own risk!
