You’d be better off building your own

(TL;DR Skip to the edit)My guinea pigs were due for a new tunnel, and I saw Scotty’s Animals on Youtube use these so I decided to try one.First thing I noticed was that there were no ingredients listed on the package: type of wood and ingredients in paint to be specific. So I opened it up and was assaulted by the smell. I’m not great at identifying wood by smell, but the rule of thumb with guinea pigs is if you can smell it, don’t leave it in their enclosure. And on top of that smell, there was a chemical smell as well. Not like normal paint smell, but I believe the smell was coming from whatever paint they used.Since the guinea pigs do fit in the tunnel very well, I decided to just fix the smell the best I could. I scrubbed it down with a vinegar/water solution and plan on oven-drying it after it air dries outside. But as of right now, my hands are STAINED with paint. I anticipated the paint to come off when I scrubbed it since pet-safe paint is usually very weak, but instead, the paint stayed on the logs and just bled everywhere. And my hands now also have the chemical smell on them. Idk what paint they use on these logs, but I think it’s safe to say it’s not safe for pets. The wood *might* be, but I’m not taking any chances until I’ve eliminated the smell. It’s also COVERED in splintered wood, so I also plan on sanding it before letting my pigs have it.The work I’m putting into making this product safe really isn’t worth it, but I don’t think I can return it after altering it so much. If you just get some wood rods, thick wire, and a small drill bit from Home Depot, you can easily make a safer version of this yourself.Edit: I meant to update this sooner with the results: It took me three full days of processing the wood before I felt it was safe. This included washing, wet sanding, rinsing, air drying, dry sanding, oven drying, and resting. The color stayed on my hands for a whole day despite washing and showering. I just purchased the natural stick tunnel from Pulse brand, and it did not have any of these issues.

My chinchilla loves this!

This is a long-time favorite of my chinchilla that I usually replace ~2x/year. My chin likes to chew the fiddle sticks, sit on top of it, and hide below it. The size is great for him and his kennel, and to preserve the life of the fiddle sticks, I usually flip the fiddle sticks inside out each time I clean out the chinchilla’s kennel. It can bend which is confident to adjust the narrowness needed for kennel space.
