I have been using the 950Z filters for the past 6 months or so with my PUR pitcher. These filters start to clog up (all of the water does not flog from the top reservoir to the bottom reservoir) after only 25-50% of the rated usage.

UPDATE 4/1/2014. This is an update to my original review back in 2008(!)
I have continued to use the PUR pitcher and these filters. Most of the time the filters work. About a month ago, I had another one that quickly stopped working (about 1 week of use).

I tried the remedy suggested by PUR, as documented by "Edward from Twlight", Theropod-X, Ruth, and others of resoaking the filter, shaking it, and tapping it on the sink. I am pleased to report this has the filter working just fine. It is unfortunate that I discarded a number of filters before learning of this fix. So while the product is not perfect, it deserves better than my original one star review. Just that fact that I am still using it after nearly 6 years says it can't be that bad. I would say it is about 3.5 stars. This periodic problem with a filter is my only dissatisfaction. Many thanks to those who researched and shared the remedy.

I usually don't write reviews but these filters were so horrible that I had to.
I purchased a pack of four. It has been less than two months and I'm already on the third filter! None of the filters lasted more than two weeks. I have been using the same PUR filters for three years and they have worked perfectly. THESE PUR FILTERS ARE DEFECTIVE! I am in a location where I am unable to purchase new filters so I am now forced to buy a months supply of bottled water or buy a completely different water filtering system. I purchased enough filters that, according to manufacturing, should have lasted me 8 months not 2 months. Because I regularly purchase PUR filters, I thought I knew what I was getting. I now wish I would have a read the reviews. Please, do not make the same mistake I did in purchasing these. WARNING! Do not assume that these are the same PUR filters that you have grown to trust!

The picture is the amount of water filtered by filter number 3 , which was placed in the dispenser one week ago, after 5 hours! In case you can't see it clearly, the top is completely filled with water but less than an inch has been filtered.

I've bought replacement filters for years. They were able to work for quite some time, which is good because I don't use a lot of filtered water.

The new ones, as many other people have found, now stop flowing after a month. This seems to happen regardless of how much you actually use them, in my experience.

I bet the company would say "we're just ensuring that you have properly filtered water." really?

I imagine someone with a spreadsheet figured this would be good for sales, to have the filters stop flowing after a monnth. I'm going to find another solution from a different company. Goodbye Pur.

We've used these filters for years. We have two Pur dispensers that we keep in the fridge in rotation, so we're never without cold filtered water. The filters always worked well before until this last batch we bought - and it was a huge batch so we wouldn't have to spend money for a long, long time because my husband was retiring. We stocked up. That was February, 2013 and none of them have worked properly. Here's what I found online that helped us:

Soak the filters for 1 HOUR, not the 15-20 minutes they tell you in the instructions. Soak for an hour, rinse for 1 minute and bang the filter and shake it to loosen up the charcoal inside it. Be sure to rinse the little drain holes in the bottom of the filter too. That fixed the last two we put in - so far. Whether it slows down again or not, I don't know yet. We've refilled them each 2-3 times and they're working fine.

These are too expensive to just toss in the garbage brand new! If they do slow down before they are expired, I'll probably do another 1 hour soak and shake and bang, just to keep them going. If you have only one Pur pitcher/dispenser, that probably won't work well for you because you'll be out of service for at least an hour.

Hope this helps! And I hope Pur fixes their filters! I see we're not the ONLY people having problems with them.

I have an assortment of complaints about these filters. For one, they came in a cheap, plain, brown, unmarked box. Paring down on superfluous packaging to save a few bucks is fine if PUR is a company selling quality products, but they're not. They're not using the savings to make product improvements, that's for certain. I'm even led to wonder if these are even genuine PUR filters.

Anyway, that's just one small annoyance. I bought the 4-pack, opened one, let it soak for 10 minutes and installed it in my pitcher. I filled the reservoir, and one....two....hours go by and the reservoir is still 1/3 full. I fill it to the top again and one....two....three hours go by and it doesn't filter through at all. The problem turns out to be intermittent. One day I would try to fill it and the filtration was inconsistent, another day it filtered and just took two or three hours (that was on a good day). I'm like, "Okay. It's a bum filter. I'll deal." So I tolerated the filter for two months and reinstalled a new one. Same problem, only worse because the 2nd filter doesn't have any "good days" at all and now I'm past Amazon's 30-day return window (btw, PUR only has a 30-day guarantee too).

Maybe a waste of $21 isn't a whole lot to gripe about, but this company isn't hurting with what they charge. Between that, the money they're saving with low-profile packaging and the use of slave labor, there is simply no excuse whatsoever for cranking out inferior, defective products like this.

Before you decide on the 4-pack, make sure to carefully comb through the reviews. There are many others who have experienced the same problems with the 4-pack as I have.
