Nash, the male protagonist, was a funny hornball. I laughed so much at his character. He was a man’s man, a fire chief, in charge of containing forest fires. He risked his life many times to help those on his team. I loved his character. What I didn’t love was the betrayal he went through before he went off to college, which ended with him missing out on 13 years with the woman he loved. He could also be so stubborn, which frustrated me to no end. I hate when people don’t communicate or listen.
Simone, the female protagonist, was not the most likable character. I wanted to smack her more than anything. And yet, I liked that about her. She wasn’t the typical character. Still, I want to smack some darn sense into her. Stubborn woman! Argh! She made so many wrong choices, couldn’t trust anyone, even those who were more knowledgeable and qualified than her. As a FEMA contact, I expected her to know more about natural disasters. She was seriously ignorant and let her pride dictate her choices, which were always wrong.
There is so much action/suspense in this book. You wouldn’t expect that from a contemporary romance, but the events that happen toward the end of the book leaves you breathless. I had no idea how the author would end this book.
