“When you reach the age of 100, suddenly, even if you did nothing notable, you are a celebrity. Friends, even longtime ones, neighbors and strangers look at you differently. You see and feel it. When perfect strangers find out, they shake your hand, as if, by osmosis, you can transfer the secrets of long life to them.” Morrie Markoff only has this advice: Keep Breathing. These are his recollections from the last century beginning in a New York tenement in 1914. Morrie recalls his impoverished beginnings that led to his creative years as a metal sculpture artist and photographer. Although he never set out to achieve any milestones, Los Angeleno Morrie has received media attention for his first gallery showing at age 100, diamond anniversary to his wife Betty, and his first book signing at age 103. Morrie has no plans to take it easy. He only has plans to “Keep Breathing.”

I just purchased this book after reading a paragraph about it in the LA Times. The article was about another centenarian, but this book, which was mentioned, sounded intriguing. I have only read the first few chapters, but I already highly recommend it. In his first chapters, Morrie writes about living in the tenements in NYC. I’ve visited the Lower Eastside Tenement Museum close to where he grew up. Though the docents there are informative, Morrie’s writing is captivating and makes the tenements come alive. I look forward to reading the rest of the book. I would like to note that, for some reason, the book cannot be purchased through the Kindle app. It must be purchased via the Amazon website.

I read this book and enjoyed it very much. I personally met Morrie and his wife Betty in July and August when I was recovering in Assisted Living from a badly broken arm. I had lunch with them several times. Morrie is a wonderful conversationalist. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago I learned his wife, Betty, passed away. I was very interested because of hearing some of them first hand. It isn't a novel, but a recitation of his life.

It was a pleasure reading this book, written by an ordinary human being living through a century worth of world experiences.

This is a MUST read - it is enjoyable and teaches some wonderful life lessons - with a smile.
Anyone who wants to learn how to age gracefully with a positive spirit will benefit from reading Morrie's book.
The way he explains things is extremely amusing but also insightful. I am an avid reader and I cant recommend
this book highly enough.

I love the guy. I know Morris personally. He is a real inspiration to me and a friend of mine who is in the same rehab as his wife.

5.0 out of 5 stars A personal Journey Through the 20th Century.

Maybe this isn't the best written memoir but it's a wonderful and enlightening journey through the tumult of 20th century America. It's a very entertaining look at the lived history and the personal experience of a man who has achieved considerable success and at 101 has recalled in great detail his childhood and young adulthood.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book ,especially as I met Morrie Markoff over 40 years and can attest for his positive and generous approach to life.
