Rest Awhile in a Quiet Place
When you long for a quiet refuge away from the noisy, frenetic circumstances of day-to-day commitments--where do you turn? If you're Elisabeth Elliot, acclaimed speaker and author of many best-selling books, you look to one place alone: to the embracing arms of our omnipotent and infinitely loving heavenly Father.
Keep a Quiet Heart is a unique collection culled from the lead articles featured in Mrs. Elliot's newsletter over the past several years. "Mostly they are about learnng to know God," the author says. "Nothing else comes close to being as important as that. It's what we are here for." Join Elisabeth as she points the way to a deeper, more fulfilling--and restful--walk with God.

She tells it like it is, yet gives hope.
Like everyone else has said, the chapters are short and easy to read as a part of a morning devotional (that's what I did) but they pack a punch in very few words. I will caution you that a lot of Elliot's ideas seem "old-fashioned" at first, and if you aren't prepared for that I'd imagine you could be turned off by some of what she says. But I would challenge you to really compare what she says with what Scripture says and, though it might be difficult to swallow, especially chapters about a woman's role in the family, I think you will find that every word is backed up by sound Biblical Truth and understanding. And, if you're looking for encouragement as you struggle against the world's interpretation of what a woman should be like today, look no further! Elliot hits the nail on the head a hundred times over.
Seriously, do yourself a favor and buy this book. You will NOT regret it.
The little essays may be read as daily devotional pieces or, as I did, the book may be approached and read through in several settings.
As someone who has recently moved to another country for missionary work with my husband, the Lord has used this book to encourage and strengthen my heart, keeping me connected with Christ in midst of the struggles I face on the missions field. Highly recommend it!
