I live in Israel, and the vivid descriptions of people and places in the book are extremely accurate and very well written. I could almost put faces of people that I know on the book characters! It's clear that the author has extensively traveled the places where the story takes place and interacted with the characters that are to be found in those places, from tourists hiking up the Masada snake trail to Jordanian tourist cops in Petra. The light touch on the history and the geology of the region adds another dimension to the original story line. Definitely recommend!

Keepers of the Rain is a great adventure novel. The combination of real-world locations, history and treasure hunting make for an exciting combination. While site-seeing in Israel the stories heroine and hero suddenly find themselves matching wits with a modern day villain as well as Herod the Great, one of history's greatest architects. Herod has some surprises in store for the sleuths and the unwavering villain has mysterious connections within the Israel government and a knack for turning up where you least expect him.

I have lived in Israel for the last 16 years and downloaded the book because it takes place in Israel--not the real Israel where I live but one that exists only in the writer's imagination. The Israeli characters are far to nice to be true in any part of the world. Maybe the author wanted to write a book that would promote good feelings about Israel--personally I find real life with both its good and bad in people much more interesting. I cannot stand the female main character--she is just too stupid to be real--no one can really be that dumb and survive life either in Israel or any where else. By the way--I am currently about half way through the book, but am afraid that is as far as I go with this author. I kept reading thinking it would get better--but it doesn't--a waste of good time that could be spent reading a really well written book about real people.

I, too, found this novel boring. I gave it two stars for the research done. The dialogue sounded like something written in the 1920's and the two main characters were totally unbelievable. WAY too much author intrusion. Example: One character tells the other one something that happened in their mutual past that the other character would know. It's an amateurs way of getting information into the book - and not in a good way. I didn't even finish it.

This book was incredible! It was very highly recommended to me so I went ahead and bought it, I am so glad that I did. I really like how how the author wove the book between present day and the ancient past. The writing is so smooth and enthralling that the transitions take place and you are totally hooked in both time periods and cannot wait to get back to each. This book keeps you fully engaged beginning to end. I really felt that I learned a lot about the area and era that this took place in. It truly has left me intrigued and wanting to learn more about the area. The style of this author is wonderful. I cannot wait for the next novel in the series that I saw in the author's bio. So glad that I discovered this new author!

This was such a delightful journey to follow. I was hooked early in the adventure and didn't want to put it down! It was intriguing to travel along with the well-developed characters (likable and despicable) on the creatively crafted thriller. The parallels between past and present day along with the meaningful cultural reference were woven eloquently. I am definitely recommending this to my book club.
