The usual components are there: dragon, damsel, guy with a sword. But the spin Ms. Andrews puts on the mix is unusual, charming, and kept my interest. Also, even though this is probably a YA novel, there's none of the overwrought teen angst that so many YA authors seem to feel is required and which I find really limits a book to teens only. Finally, thought I know lots of authors don't seem to care, her grammar and punctuation are nearly impeccable. That makes it easy to read with no "speed bumps" along the way.
Excellent job, Ms. Andrews. Hope to see more in the future.
This is a wonderful story of courage and romance. I loved the way Andrews told this story. I was sucked in from the start. I'll definitely be reading more of her work.
JA Andrews' setup and writing style remind me of Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind, albeit in a much lighter form. She mixes in some dry humor into the work and the story flows at a very steady pace. Despite a relatively low page count, I feel that A Keeper's Tale was well worth the three dollars I had paid but many readers may feel otherwise. Thus, I think the author should consider making this work available in Kindle Unlimited later on in order to reach a wider readership.
