In terms of the content, I appreciated how earnest and frank Ray was in the writing of this piece. Unlike many modern authors, Ray is not at all interested in coming off as endearing or quaint; which is refreshing. Ray sticks to his guns in a more traditionally conservative theology, while still maintaining a level head and a pragmatic delivery.
The style is intensely audible, which is good in that it is personal, yet at times can make the ideas difficult to sift out of the rhetoric. It is nice to feel like you are in dialogue while reading, versus having someone belt out the exhaustive truth as they see it. Ray's literary voice definitely drives at the former, but this can cause ideas to be fuddled and lost in the (at times) confounding sentence structure.
Ultimately, it is a good read and puts out an interesting perspective that wanes personality. I would recommend this book to those who believe that Christianity strips an individual of their personal qualities. I feel like Ray is a very good writer, and this book did his style and spiritual views justice.

I must say that I sincerely appreciate the honesty of Ray Sikes as he speaks his mind on some of the most pressing issues in the Christian life today. It is a breath of fresh air to finally have someone "tell it like it is" without the "Tip Toeing" around the issues. Early on in "Keeping it Between the Ditches," Ray Sikes gives a characteristically frank rundown of his initial encounters with religion as he gives detail to attending his parents' church. If a more likable writer than Sikes is currently in print, I haven't found him, or her. I mean that Sikes' prose is fueled by a mix of intelligence, wit, and colloquial exuberance that is close to irresistible, and makes the reader only too glad to join the posse of friends and devotees who have the pleasure of listening in. At its best, the book provides an occasion for Sikes to unleash his fresh, honest, sometimes peculiar sensibility on a national stage. I truly hope that You take advantage of this opportunity and order this book! It's a book you will not be able to put down!

I've read Sike's book, and let me say upfront, I went into this book an atheist, and I'm still an atheist. The book did affect me, though: I devoured it in one night, and it gave me a great insight into a genuine Christian experience. It's nice to come across a book that shows an honest Christian trying to live a good life.

This is not a book you can read just once. As I was reading I went back and highlighted parts I wanted to really remember. This author has a way of speaking to your soul with conviction, humility, boldness and honesty, that causes you to want to better yourself, but at the same time relish the totally messed up, pefectly made creatures God made us. I found myself laughing out loud in one chapter and then crying in the next. I would highly recommend this book. It can truly change your life. This is a gifted author and I look forward to more!!

This book is a straightforward and honest accounting of a very personal road to faith. But even more importantly it is a road map to owning up to our own shortcomings, being forgiven, being encouraged, and being filled with courage simultaneously. This book is all about freedom. Freedom from all human judgement, and freedom to live in the full and complete joy that only Jesus Christ offers. This story hits home, and is powerfully moving. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever wanted to bypass religiosity, to get to the heart of the matter of Christ.
