The editing was really good with few errors and the plot is a great one but in my opinion, it fell short in the execution. You may feel differently, so give it a “chance” (haha). Seriously, though. I skimmed the reviews and a lot of people loved this book so I am definitely in the minority in thinking it was just OK. It took me a couple of weeks to read it as I would get bored and read something else for a while.
My favorite book by Holly Hart so far is Climax – I highly recommend that one for your next book. It’s sexy, amusing, and unpredictable.
I received an ARC of Keeping Her and am voluntarily leaving an honest, unbiased review.
The characters are all fully fleshed out and the story is rich with enough detail on their backstories and their present day personalities to make them seem as real as possible. And I loved all of them. I especially loved Sara's strength and determination.
I had problems with the pacing in this one. I expect a long story from this author, but more often than not, I find myself so immersed in the story, I don't take notice. But I found myself setting this one aside at times. The relationship portion of the story was stellar. You could feel the passion and love leaping off the page. And my goodness, Chase's love for this woman is a living breathing thing. But it's all the other stuff that slowed me down at times. The backstory of what happened with the business and that portion of the storyline and the introduction of more characters, the interludes, etc. I wanted more of the relationship. Then, when we do get it (hotel and Bora Bora) it's almost as if it was out of place considering everything going on around them and the urgency of the situation. And there were pieces of Sara's mother's storyline that I wondered why were brought up then quickly resolved (issues of that nature often linger longer, especially when they've been present for so long). But in the end, there is a beautiful relationship here and that's why I kept coming back.
This is a second chance story, but it's also a story about family - not necessarily the ones you are born into, but the ones that fate brings to your life. And with enough persistence and hope, it's completely possible to have the happily ever after you fantasize about.
/I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. This did not affect my opinion of the book or content of my review./
15 years is a long time to hold out for someone but that is exactly what Sara and Chance have been doing, but nail fate brings them together, both have their own agendas. Both feel the sparks that 15 years can't erase.
