This is a story you will never forget....a child, a mother, a grandmother and grandfather. You will believe you are there experiencing it all. This book should not be missed.
The saccharine ending was unsatisfying and not believable. The novel would have been much better if the parents, eventually, had not realized, felt sorry for and tried to make up for their past sins. Kate was also unrealistically selfless and forgiving. In the future, Phillips should use her talent to write a more complex novel

It was interesting to see the two sides of the argument, and to see clearly how each side felt about the other, and about poor young Sam, caught in the middle.
This author deals with subjects that resonate and not always in a comfortable way, but she does it so well by weaving the threads into a wonderful tapestry of characters and situations.
Her books never disappoint.
