Will building one that doesn't support a small, five table database take more effort? Absolutely it will. However, this book is a great start towards that. Look at it as more of a foundation for a great solution and not an end-to-end walkthrough.
This book dives right in to how you write those types of apps for a Windows 8 touch environment. It runs quickly through how to set up the environment (Active Directory, SQL Server, IIS) so even if you're unfamiliar with the Microsoft stack you'll be able to get up and running with minimal difficulties. Then it dives into writing the app (using C#).
Highly recommended for anyone that's writing LOB apps for Windows 8.
From virtualizing the backend servers all the way to the presentation layer in a Windows 8 app, Rob uses the latest shipping Microsoft technology so everything works as described on premiss as well as on Microsofts cloud based services in Windows Azure.
Its refreshing to read something so current and works without having to write thousands of lines of code to get up and running.
