Not sure if "I" would call it the "quintessential collection" but its pretty sweet.
Obviously this is geared towards people who are just now getting into Mr Amemiyas films.
Though those who own the individual films may be interested in it as well.
So lets break it down in no particular order...
I'm going to go ahead and say it...Zeiram 2 only exists because the 1st was such a great film.
Some what like an excuse to bring the characters back. Don't get me wrong, its a cool film.
The production values are much better and we get a ever so slightly better look at the cool world
the first film gave us a glimpse of. But the sequel just lacks that little something that the first had.
The first film just felt...I don't know..."organic"
On the plus side Intergalactic Investigator Iria is back and even more beautiful than ever.
While investigating a case concerning a valuable artifact things go south as usual
and what was supposed to be help, turns out to be a nasty bit of a hassle.
The character and creature designs are cool and the action equally as clever. BUT you NEED
to see the 1st if you want the real ZEIRAM!!
Like a mix of Robocop the Terminator with a dash of the Road Warrior.
Probably the best produced movie of the 3, the quality of the transfer is beautiful.
In the future a nutjob believes he can achieve true peace through docility but only manages
to create a dystopia. A group of rebels searching for treasure stumble upon HAKAIDER
apowerful cyborg like robot encased in a vault. Upon reactivation Hakaider makes a beeline
for the dystopia city, but will he be its savior? Or its destroyer?
There is a lot to like about this film. The set and creature designs once again are very cool and
the use of oldschool SFX is done very well. But the acting is somewhat laughable...this
is mostly hidden behind the Japanese vocal track but is seeps through enough to be noticed.
Like the other 3 films it features a very beautiful girl, In fact she is downright adorable...
but her acting is...pretty poor. IN FACT this films English dub is downright HILARIOUS!
And ends up accentuating some of the hammy performances.
Seriously, this is a movie to grab a few friends and watch together. Maybe make a drinking
game out of every time the pretty girl makes her cute little "o" face of surprise.
Trust me everyone would be drunk off their asses half way through the film.
Moon Over Tao
This one I had no idea nor expectations. And It turned out to be a strange
and very cool movie. It makes me think of Ninja Scroll for some reason (thought in no way as
brutal as that film) Some thing about aliens and warring clans in feudal Japan.
Hot alien chics, Bad A$$ Samurai and grotesque monsters?! C'mon you know you are in for
a good time. I think it's the oldest of the 3 films but is no slouch in the cool factor.
Personally My 2 favorite Keita Amemiya films are MURAI NINJA and ZEIRAM 1 but these 3 are
strong enough to justify the price IMHO. Minus 1 star because I would have loved to see Zeiram 2
replaced with any of the 2 films in my previous sentence.
