I didn't read the instructions on how to attach the rain fly, thinking I wouldn't need it on my trip; however, with a 30% chance of rain, I had to set this up with no instructions. This, too, was very intuitive for a beginner.
I found this tent to be very light and didn't add much weight to my backpack at about 4lbs, 10oz packed. The 2 gear pockets and hooks were great for storing my stuff, and the zippers were smooth and pretty quiet. My tent was smaller than a few others' 2-person tents, but I am 5' 1", so room was not an issue for me. I think most people know that 2-person tents fit 2 snugly anyway.
Just as the reviews of last year's model stated, the stakes leave a bit to be desired. They bend quite easily, but I was glad they were included. It should be a while before I have to replace them.
It ended up not raining that night, so I'll update my review once I camp with this in inclement weather. Overall verdict -- Great tent!
This tent is quick and easy to assemble. It doesn't let in moisture, retains warmth, and is easy to take down in minutes. I live in florida so not using the rainfly is risky, scattered showers occur without warning. I usually just anchor the rainfly and 3 points and leave it folded over the top, exposing a third of the tent to the night sky. If it starts raining I just reach out and pull the rest down without having to get out of the tent.
There is plenty of room for 2 people, as advertised, but it is light enough to consider for yourself as a solo tent. Many solo tents just dont have the space inside to be comfortable. And I don't like to leave my pack outside in case of the rain. Even with rainfly over your gear, the ground will still leave your pack soaked if you aren't careful. I purchased the optional footprint for this tent, just as a precaution to punctures.
I have taken this tent out dozens of times in the wilderness, and to a couple of music festivals, and it is still holding strong. I keep it as an emergency shelter on my motorcycle, and it packs down very small.
