While this is called a 2 person tent, you would probably want to be pretty close with the person you are sharing it with.
Overall build quality seems really nice, I like the unique pole design and the little clips for connecting the poles to the tent. There are some fiddly bits of plastic like the jakes foot, and the clips for the rain fly. Will these break at some point? Sure, but I think I will get many years of use out of this tent before that happens. And the trade-off is that is really easy to setup.
I looked at a few other Kelty models, this model does include the footprint which you should probably use is most cases and by the time you factor that in the price is almost a wash.
Two points I wanted to address from one of the other reviewers:
1. You don't need trekking poles to "complete the product". The very large vestibule stakes out like any other model Kelty tent. If you *do* have trekking poles on hand (or some sticks), you do have the option to make a nice font porch though.
2. The reviewer mentioned there are no door tie backs - this is true. However, the exterior pockets the reviewer mentioned for storage are actually to stuff the doors in when they are open. I only know this because you can see this being done in a picture of the tent on the Kelty site. I'd never seen this before - but in use I actually prefer this to the tie backs because it is much faster.
A few other points:
- Love the doors on both sides. If you are sharing with someone you don't have to climb over people when you get in/out of tent.
- Vestibules on both sides as well, one is smaller but good for boots and small back for one person. The large vestibule is very large, two people could fit packs in it - no trekking poles required.
- The kelly gear loft also on sale on Amazon fits this tent perfectly
My son and I took this to the top of a mountain and camped right on the summit for two days. We stayed dry, ventilated, warm, and safe from the wind. It's quick to set up and take down. We had plenty of room, both inside and out under the fly, for our gear.
The only cons are minor.. I wish I didn't have to pay for the gear loft separately and I am finding the square fold of it a bit annoying. I'm not super experienced, so maybe I'll get the hang of it eventually... but my last tent rolled up and it was so much easier to stash. I could clip it to the outside of my bag, tie it to the bottom, or fit it inside. This tent is just like, "ugh, where do I put it?!" It does fit in my crazy full trunk more easily though.
I'm still really looking forward to the next decade with this tent. I enjoy it and I feel like it will last forever.
Pros: light weight, super-fast to set up and take down, innovative tent bag (it's a roll-top in a cube shape), durable, made by Kelty (they will replace your broken tent poles for free if that ever becomes the case), great for backpacking, pockets are on the outside of the doors so you can place additional gear in there while the fly is on, the material can reflect light to make it easier to see the tent in the dark, and it comes with a footprint
Cons: The doors do not have anything to tie them up to and you have to purchase the trekking poles to basically finish off the product. Both of these issues are totally subjective to the person, so that's why my overall review is not negatively affected.
