Women's Redwing 40
The Redwing 40 women's pack is the perfect size for quick getaways, whether on the trail or in the air. Hybrid-loading U-zipper design works as both a top loader and panel loader, allowing easy access to all your gear. An additional stash pocket on the front of the pack makes it easy to tuck away a jacket or hoodie, and inside we've updated the organizers for maps, electronics, pens, and other travel essentials. The hydration sleeve is a dual-use pocket that can carry a laptop without worries. LightBeam single aluminum stay and Dynamic AirFlow back panel keep your load stable and comfortable, while custom shoulder straps and hip belt are built to fit a woman's body. Whether your journey takes you to the streets of Chicago or the canyons of Colorado, the Redwing 40 has you covered.
Large side compression straps and Ice axe/trekking pole loops keep everything secure.
Front pocket with organization allows everything to have a place.
Front Stash pocket with closure hook adds extra space.

Before settling on this bag I tried the Osprey Porter 30 and the Osprey Farpoint 40 S/M. Both are comfortable and would have been large enough for my needs. The Kelty Redwing 40 just fit right to me. You'll know when you feel the right bag and in this case I did. My torso length is 18 inches, by the way.
I own an ebags TLS weekender junior which is a really fabulous travel backpack if you don't plan to walk a long distance because it lacks a true hip belt that can displace the weight from your shoulders. So I consider the Kelty a bag for strategic packing and farther mobility than simply walking through airports or from the curb to the hotel front desk and then to your room.
Some things I don't like about this bag, and I probably only feel this way after having tried two Osprey packs, are the top loading (vs. having the entire front panel open wide like a suitcase). I practice packed this bag using the actual clothes and cubes I will bring on my trip and I filled the bag to about half the capacity. But loading is from the top and even though it opens wide, it still isn't the same as front loading. I also don't like that the straps don't stow away behind a panel. If you have to check your pack, the straps may get caught and damaged. Supposedly the hip belt can be removed but I haven't ben able to successfully remove it. Last negative is that the zippers don't lock. Where I'm going that's not a dealbreaker but it's something to consider.
So why 5 stars? Because in spite of these negatives, this is a very comfortable, breathable, lightweight and durable pack. It holds a surprisingly great amount of items. And to me, color is the least significant aspect of luggage but this shade called deep lake is a gorgeous teal, deeper and richer in person than in the photo. My teenage daughter will be carrying this same bag in black, and my husband and son both will use Osprey packs. I hope this review is helpful to you!
The only thing I wish it had was a zipper on the hip or shoulder strap for either putting a passport/cellphone/papers that you would need to get to quickly without taking the pack off. That was my only gripe with this back. Other than that, I love kelty bags. Good quality and durable. I have another one I've had for 11 years now and still holds up.
Update - july 2017
Is to small for packing cubes, I bought three difference packing cubes sizes and I only use the small one. Was a little difficult to pack my clothes. I little disappointed with the capacity but the material is very good! Maybe I have to try the 44, maybe? I don't know. But this backpack is not going to the Euro Trip I'm planning! :(
I accept suggetions! :)
