Unfortunately, the very next trip out, the other pole's elastic cord snapped (properly stored in the storage bag with a rubber band around it!). I was stuck out in the desert at night so I had to rig something together to make the tent function. I was even more surprised to see that the pole had also started to crack at one end near the base of the tent.
This really makes me sad because my family & I are huge Kelty fans. They are usually very high quality tents. I had a Kelty tent for nearly 2 decades that went through hell and it never had a problem.
I've contacted Kelty once again and asked for a replacement. I can't afford to do back to back camping trips with constant tent fails like these.
10/26/17 - Update: Kelty customer service was great. They replaced the tent with another model.
Easy set up, durable, and lots of nice design features (interior pockets, half opening on the internal front door for air, etc). I made it thru a night with 30 mph wind gusts and it never budged. Haven't had it in the rain yet.
I would not recommend this for a couple, even one who is very very much in love. By the time I'm in with my gear, it's quite a tight fit. It's also very short, so beware of that -- your head clearance in only going to be about 3 feet. (Note the height in relation to the folding chair.) That's not a problem for me, but it might be for some.
Mostly if you're looking for an inexpensive but well-designed tent, this is one to consider. I don't have the Kelty footprint, btw -- I cannot wrap my mind around paying over half the price of the tent for a footprint. So far an Academy tarp has done just fine, although I don't camp in the rain.
