A 100% natural coconut fiber doormat, that is great to use year round. Trap dirt outside your entrance, while increasing its appeal. The fibers are weaved on the bottom of the mat, so there is no synthetic rubber backing. This allows water to easily drain through the mat. Size: 18" (L) X 30" (W) X 1" (T).
Top customer reviews
* they seem to be good at getting the dirt off your shoes because it's made of a thick stiff bristle material.
* look nice (plain, which is fine with me)
* They have no rubber backing, so you MUST put the braided side down and "spikey" side up or the doormat will "walk" each time you step on it. When the wrong side is facing up, it will move ... a LOT
* They leave a lot of brown dust (although for outdoors, I don't care about that)
* after a few months use, they shed a lot. It leaves string (what others call hay) all over the place, inside the house. The strings get stuck on your shoes and they get everywhere.
DOWNGRADED to 1 star after several months of use. They leave a mess in the house because they shed so badly. If for very infrequent use, then they are ok. If for your main entryway, get another mat. I am throwing away two that we use for the main entrances to your house.
The coconut fiber is ideal for removing grime from shoes without scuffing them. The weave allows the grime to be ground up and exit from the bottom of the mat. All you need to do is shake out the mat occasionally, and of course sweep up the debris. Some who complain about the debris need to understand that this is an outdoor product. OTOH if you add a plastic catch pan to collect the debris, it works fine in mud rooms.
After having this product for 2 weeks now, I can definitely say that out of thousands of dollars I have spent at Amazon over the last 3 years, this is the absolute worst product I have ever bought. It literally sheds non-stop, fibers and powder both. It doesn't matter how many times you beat it out. The fibers accumulate like a cat shedding at the start of summer and gets inside the house no matter how much you clean it. It's a daily chore to sweep all the fibers off the balcony and there is no indication that it will ever end.
You can see from the pictures what I mean about shedding. It is like this constantly. Maybe the smaller sizes don't do this, but I'm not going to try them. Also, if you try to have the unwoven side down in a futile effort to keep fibers from coming into the house with you, this doormat will literally "walk" over painted wood surfaces as you step on it. It won't stay in place on that side.
I gave it two weeks, hoping the shedding was just "newness". Now I'm sorry I bought it and the wife made me throw it away. Sorriest $45 I've ever spent. :(
It's no muss, no fuss. It is much thicker than I thought it'd be and stands up to heavy traffic in and out of my place.
It gets soaked during heavy rain, but drys quickly.
Well worth the price.
However, outdoors these mats are not friends for life. After a year or so in the weather and being scraped by countless feet, they become clogged with dust-fine detritus. This causes them to get waterlogged and fall apart at the edges. If it bothers you to replace outdoor mats periodically, then rubber alternatives may be more suitable. However, they won't begin to approach the cleaning performance of a true coco bristle mat.
I really like how the edges of this one are and think that it will hold up better than the ones that have the coir rope bound around the edge. Don't let the words "low clearance" fool you, this is a very luxurious mat - much thicker than the inexpensive ones and yet not quite as thick as some. I have purchased thicker ones in the past and have always been worried about someone tripping over the edge - not worried about that with this one.
Definitely recommend and after we get done with some repairs I will be ordering another one for the back porch too!
