I have used it to clean everything from tweezers and nail clippers, an electric razor head, router bits, wood/metal files, and handguns to entire carburetors off my two Harleys. It has performed very well and has done a fantastic job restoring the items to like new condition. I have always used tap water and 8 ounces of Simple Green Cleaner/Degreaser (non-acidic and biodegradable) and found that best results have been obtained by preheating the liquid to 70 degrees C.
Before cleaning my handguns, I purchased plastic baskets at Walmart for a few bucks and placed the handguns in the plastic basket, then the plastic basket in the wire basket included with the cleaner so that there would be no metal-to-metal contact, thus protecting the gun's finishes.
My fishing reals are next to receive a nice, warm bath!
I had read that previously, some Kendal units had wiring that wasn't up to standards (unsecured leads rubbing fan housings, etc.) so I disassembled the cleaner and checked it out, and found nothing wrong or shoddy with the assembly or soldering.
Performance is as good as I had expected: the "foil test" came out looking like it was sandblasted after 15 min. in water. I've run sessions of heavy degreasing, and heavy decalcification of parts, and was very happy with the outcome.
The drain with a gate valve is a nice feature, although I had to buy a fitting to plumb tubing to run to a catch container. However, even when filled to capacity, it's not too awkward to pick up and dump.
No second thoughts on this purchase.
Cons: Assembly of the product is bad, real bad.
When I first started using the 9 Liter, 540 Watts Heated Ultrasonic Cleaner I was impressed with how well it cleaned a dirty revolver. I ran an oiled patch through the barrel and nothing, it came out as clean as it went in. I was impressed, but somewhat concerned about how noisey the cleaner was. I contacted the supplier with my concern and quickly received a response asking me to see if a wire was contacting the cooling fan. I removed the bottom panel of the unit and did find a wire that had been rubbing on the fan. But that was not all I found. There were two nuts laying inside the unit that were supposed to hold a small transformer in place. They had come off and the transformer was hanging by its wires. In addition, one of the nuts was supposed to hold the equipment (safety) ground wire in place. In effect, the cleaner's chassis was ungrounded which could have created a very unsafe condition. (Also, the ground wire was yellow, not the green required by UL, NEC, or most any other regulating agency in the US) And finally, the two power wires for the cooling fan were pinched flat between the bottom panel of the unit and the side. Fortunately the insulation on the wires was not cut.
I taped up the wire that had rubbed on the fan, reattached the transformer and ground wire. and zip tied the two wires for the fan out of the way. I also used about 8 additional wire ties to reorganize the cluster of wires inside the unit (there was only one wire tie from the manufacturer, which was the root of half the issues).
I should add that the supplier offered to replace the unit, and if he were located across town I would have taken him up on it. However I also assumed I would need to take the replacement unit apart to dress up the wiring and ensure everything was tight so I just kept the one I had, since I already had it apart.
Bottom line is the product works well and the supplier responds quick, but if you're not an electrical engineer (as I am) or comfortable wiring electrical devices, I would hesitate before purchasing this product. If you do purchase it, pull the bottom panel off before using to make sure you don't have an unsafe situation. Am I satisfied with my purchase? I'm not sure, the price was very reasonable. Only time will tell.
