It is relatively quiet, and is compact compared to the one it is replacing.
As stated by others, the Kenmore smart app was not usable, and is now completely gone.
However, the Kenmore app was actually by Frigidaire.
If you load the Frigidaire app you'll find you already have an account that was set up from your Kenmore registration.
Also, the Frigidaire A/C app controls the Kenmore A/C just fine and seems stable and reliable.
BTW, I got an email the other day from Sears apologizing for the fact that the Kenmore app is not longer usable.
It stated since I purchased the A/C in 2016 and now the SMART function is already gone, they will send me a brand new unit FOR FREE!
A code was sent in the email and I ordered it through the website. The UPS tracking shows it will be delivered in another day.
Also, they said I was to keep the other unit.
So, I'll now have two units, both working perfectly, for the price of one clearance unit purchased form Sears for $99.
Sometimes, you get lucky.
I bought this in hopes of being able to Voice Control it with the Amazon Echo, so far no luck but an 8,000 BTU AC unit for $225 can't really be beat. It's quiet enough and keeps the bedroom nice and cold. If the folks at Kenmore wanted to improve this unit, they should focus on their app. Setting a schedule is neat but I'd like better features. Geo Fencing would be key.
I tried multiple times to create and account and reached out to customer services for assistance as well. The customer service based in India did not know how to help me and suggested I send and email instead. It isn't anything we can do on the consumer side. The error I get lies on Sear's side. Kenmore and Sears in general appears to have abandoned the app or their serves alltogether as I get an error hinting that the app cannot connect with their servers or that they are non-existent in the first place.
In essence, I purchased a big, dumb overpriced air conditioner and could not use the smart home features I paid for. I returned the product and purchased a portable unit for my home.
This unit is awesome. Just what I was looking for, and a great value.
I installed this in a through-wall application, even though it's technically a window unit. The unit itself slides out of its case. So I was able to remove the case and install it in the through-wall space, and then slide the unit into the case after it was mounted, simplifying the entire process.
The wifi control via my iPhone has worked flawlessly. The version 1.0 software enables me to turn the unit on or off, set it to fan, cool, or eco. It even has a delayed start and delayed off setting with a slider although the limits at the moment are set in hour increments up to 24 hours.
You can see the current temperature remotely, without having the AC turned on.
Connecting the app is super easy. Download the software, setup an account with your email and password, and then there is a QR code behind the vent grate that you scan with your phones camera. 5 seconds later, you're all set.
I only had one hiccup where the unit didn't connect after a few weeks. I attribute that to the fact that I changed my household cable modem and router. I unplugged he AC and plugged it back in after a few moments, and it reset everything and reconnected no problem.
The unit looks good. It's quiet, and appears very well made- all tubing is copper, scroll compressor, and it removes an incredible amount of humidity from the air.
I highly recommend this unit and have been supremely satisfied with my purchase. Thank you Kenmore for making an airconditikner that met market demand.
I also linked this to my Alexa account. I have changed the temperature with voice commands. However, I haven't played with that functionality to try and do more sophisticated things- setting timer or turning unit on and off.
The air that blows out of this unit is very cold.
The only improvement they could make to this would have been a directional air control that was motorized. My previous Panasonic unit had vertical vents that could be set to oscillate back and forth to move the air around the room and could control with the remote.
This unit has manually controlled vents that you just position, and that's it.
My only other criticism is that the remote control that comes with it seems very cheap. It's very light and all plastic, but it works fine from a great distance. I anticipate using my phone 95% of the time to control it anyway.
