This is the first book in the series In Denver. R. Colora knows how to draw people into the story. I was hooked from the first page I look forward to reading the next book in this series. It's very well written and the characters were very well developed. I couldn't help but feel connected to the characters in this story.
One thing that R. Colora did exceptionally well in this book is the dialogue. It feels real and natural and almost never seemed forced or fake. This book also seemed rather dialogue heavy, but it worked. The emotions were conveyed just through what was being said most of the time.
Some of the details of this story seemed a bit too fanciful and outlandish to me, but mostly because they just seem to be so out of left field that I couldn't really fit them into the picture in my head. This was almost entirely related to Kennedy's money situation, so it wasn't really a major point of the story as a whole.
Although the story spans several years, it moves at a fairly quick pace, jumping in time to leave out mundane every day life, and the jumps were executed fairly well. It was always made clear how much time had passed since the last scene ended. There isn't much else I can discuss without moving into spoiler territory, so I will just wrap this up now.
Overall I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because it kept me engaged and the dialogue was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this book to romance readers that like strong female leads.
I provided post publication assistance with the spelling and grammar in this novel.

I loved the heroine, she is smart, talented, a great friend, self-confidant, and kick-a$$. She goes through a lot before we even meet the hero. As I lived through happiness and tragedy with her, I was totally relating to her. She is so believably written.
We don't even meet the hero until well into the book, and he is a good guy. The thing is, he is occasionally totally stupid. I think his character was very believable and usually likable. I guess I agree with what I think the author's idea of men, that sometimes their brain turns off, but they are still great to have around.
The plot has to do with a horrible tragedy that changes the heroine's life altogether. Later, as she is recovering almost to normalcy, there is a dangerous situation with another friend. The heroine lost her great friends at the beginning of the book, but then is able to save the new friend. I think this brought closure to her in a very moving way.
