docking zero footprint, there is a spot on this riser for that too. It attaches under the top portion of the riser.
Working from a a laptop all day can hurt your neck. If you think about it you are always looking down to see the screen. This riser without question eliminates the need to look down. You can now easily affix your laptop to the riser and bam, the screen is now at eye level and your neck is spared for most parts of the day. So...it does work very well in keeping your body in an ergonomically correct position thus keeping you a bit healthier. If you are looking for something to keep you sitting correctly, this is the answer...though an expensive answer.
I wouldn't recommend this for larger laptops, I have a macbook air and it fits very well but anything much bigger won't work. There are several ports on here that allow you connect your USB plugs to the unit. This worked well for the external keyboard THAT IS VERY MUCH NEEDED. You won't really be able to type on the laptops keyboard comfortable.
For a while I thought that the cell phone portion of this didn't work as it simply didn't charge when placed on the "pad". In the end, I learned that removing your case or cover you will have success in charging your cell phone.
This isn't an attractive piece. If you are in a professional setting, don't expect others to swoon over the look it as it truly is function over form. It is fairly sturdy despite appearing as if it may topple at any moment. Again, when I started using this I was using the laptops keyboard which didn't help stability of the unit.
In the end, if you are looking for something to lift your laptop from the table this will get you where you need to be. I am guessing that there are superior products available to consumers that are better.
It has colors for the stand height options, and a graphic in the manual with corresponding sizes of hands they recommend for each color. For me, though, this stand really doesn't work well as something you use to type on directly. The risers are just too bouncy. Had they wanted this to be good for typing directly on, they'd need to put two more risers, one on each front corner, to stabilize it. The instructions don't have hardly any words, other than "Charging" or "Green" - but oddly enough, right where they show how to use your hand size to determine the "optimum position" for the riser adjustment, right next to that it shows a graphic of someone typing on the laptop while it's on the stand with a cirle and slash, apparently indicating that you are NOT to type on the keyboard when it is on this stand. So why is the "height" determined by someone's hand size, if you're not supposed to type on it anyway? The hand sizing correlating to the riser settings is an enigma to me. But if they don't want you typing on it, that's actually good, since it just moves around more than I'd want, especially as you hit the lower keys, or the space bar. The bouncing is pronounced enough for me as I touch type that it's annoying how much the screen is moving around on me. And I don't want to have to hold my hands in the air to type, this really isn't solid enough for me to feel comfortable resting the heel of my palms on my laptop as I type if it's in the stand, as that really tips it forward.
I, however, had no plans on typing directly on my laptop with this. I have stands, one at home, a rain design MStand that's similar to this as far as layout, without a charger, and one at the office that just tilts the laptop up to raise the screen. At home, I don't type on it, I just use it to keep the laptop next to the couch, so I can reach over and click things, but I always pull the computer onto my lap to do any actual typing. At the office, I had a docking station, and a wireless keyboard and trackpad that use a dongle in the USB dock so I don't need to touch the laptop while it's in the stand there either.
I have an iPhone 6s so I don't have native Qi charging, but I have a couple cases that let me charge wireless, and I have Qi chargers at work and in a couple rooms at home. They all work fine with this charger. The light is about 3/16 inch in diameter, it's not too bright, so wherever this is used, it won't be a problem.
Also, if you bump the phone and it moves away from the "sweet spot" simply sliding it back in place won't restart charging, you have to lift the phone out of there for a second, then place it back in the correct position.
My mStand has rubber on it, which while I thought it was good, has caused me issues with my HP Spectre X360, since they've caused the rubber feet on my laptop to end up pulled off on two of four feet, since the rubber on the stand causes too much friction as I remove the laptop from the stand with one hand, so two of the feet have been removed while using that stand. So this stand will work better for me than that one, since it has no rubber anywhere. Oddly enough, not even on the two projections on front that come up and keep it from sliding down. Usually you'd expect a couple little rubber pieces there to help keep something in place, most of the other stands I've had with the lip like that had something on those lips to keep things from sliding. For me, not an issue here, since that's where the laptop's own feet should kick in. In my case, the laptop won't move since the rubber feet are on the plastic deck.
There is also nothing stipulating what is a "safe area" to put other things (pencils, cables, etc) underneath. I have several things under my mStand at home, including an LED light string remote and a couple USB sticks. I'm going to guess that it won't cause any problems to have them elsewhere underneath this, just not in the charging area itself, not so much to interfere with charging, but I've heard of issues when people put other things that have metal in them on charging pads... I want to avoid issues here, so it would've been nice to have even just s rectangle around the "danger" area here so you know where to keep things away from, or at least something illustrating it in the owner's manual.
This has the ability to tuck a Kensington universal dock underneath and secure it with screws. I don't have that, so can't attest to it. The idea is nice though, I just wish they did something more "universal" so I could use even my Dell USB 3 dual monitor dock under here, since the form factor is about the same as what they have. Maybe a small lip or shelf so you could use an existing one if you had it.
I also like the concept of the wire routing under the deck for the laptop power cable, but since my power cable goes into the side, it's a bit awkward to try to use, so I won't bother.
It does show finger oil smudges as well.
The power plug wire is over 4 feet long, so it worked OK for me, but depending on your placement issues, this fortunately uses a standard USB micro plug, so if you have a longer one of those, you can use it. I tested this with a couple of mine, and was able to charge with them all.
So since even the manufacturer seems to state don't type on the laptop while using this stand, I won't take a star off for that, as clearly it wasn't designed to do so. It doesn't impact me anyway, since it's either just being held on one stand, or I have an external keyboard and trackpad on another.
I do like the adjustment for height, something many stands lack. Since I like storing things underneath, even if I have to be wary of where I do that here, it's nice to select the height that works for me, rather than being forced to use the height they dictated I would have to work around, as with my mStand. I also like not having to waste space elsewhere for a Qi charger. May as well put that real estate under the laptop's suspended deck to use. So I'll settle for 4 stars, since I wish they had done a shelf or something for a docking station rather than having a proprietary screw system that will only work with theirs.
