From the Back Cover

Tired of the same old tourist traps? Whether you’re a visitor or a local looking for something different, let Kentucky Off the Beaten Path show you the Bluegrass State you never knew existed.

Soothe your ailments and your hunger with the healing properties of poke at the Poke Sallet Festival; take an expedition through Walt Whitman’s “vale of the Elkhorn” in a canoe; or stay in your own personal concrete teepee in Cave City.

Visit the incredible collection of fossils on display at Big Bone Lick State Park, in an area where colossal mammals came to lick salt (and sulfur) more than 10,000 years ago.

So if you’ve “been there, done that” one too many times, get off the main road and venture Off the Beaten Path.

I'm really enjoying browsing through and reading this book! The author has obviously checked out most (if not all) of the places and events personally, and her writing style is very enjoyable and easy to read. I love the little gray boxes with interesting facts and/or stories scattered throughout. I am definitely happy with this book and will be referencing it whenever I'm in the mood for a KY road trip! :)

The "Off the Beaten Path" travels with me on my solo road trips. These are my attempts to re-create and re-generate. For each book of the series the author has taken the time to find the local coffee shops, museums, residents and documented the gems most travelers try to find. Most of my driving is 'off the freeway' and to have the story of an area I'm traveling through is special. Updating is commonplace in this series as more is discovered by the authors or provided by the reader. So instead of taking a day to find a local gem, the writer has documented it for us, and we read it and visit in a shorter time probably with more information than going it alone. Anyway, "Off the Beaten Path" series is a front seat companion on my off the interstate travels.

This is a very good book to take with you as you travel through Kentucky or vacation there. It enabled us to find some interesting places to visit and some good food to chow down on, too. That is the important part - good food, you know. I enjoyed reading this book and have enjoyed going back to read parts of it again. Highly recommended if you are going to be in Kentucky and even if you aren't, it is a fun read.

This book was difficult to read. Any maps that were available were so small on my Kindle I could see them. If you have little knowledge of Kentucky you will be disappointed. There are better travel books out there.
