The tale begins with an exchange between Anita, an indignant grandmother and Kate, a dismissive professional lady—it seems that the granddaughter Jade, of college age, is having an affair with Kate’s husband, Lamar. And, to make matters even worse, as they always are in these situations, Jade is pregnant. Add to this another level of intrigue, Lamar is the mayor of the Cincinnati suburb that is the backdrop for the story.
Despite this seeming to be a familiar tale of possible infidelity, it quickly reveals itself, through back-story and clever dialogue to be immersed in past murder, attempted murder, and domestic violence.
I found the characters to be of considerable interest—from the albino detective who turns up at Kate’s door looking for the woman who had turned up at the same door just the day before, to a power broker who fathered Kate’s daughter and is now hell bent on revenge against both Kate and Lamar.
Almost anything else I mention could qualify as spoilers, so intertwined is the story, so I will stop. I notice other aspects of the story are noted in the generally very positive reviews that have been posted before mine.
I downloaded this 113 or so page onto my kindle shortly before taking off on a short flight. I remained engrossed in it until touchdown.
I’ll give this 4 of 5 stars, and hopefully I can get to the first installment in this series very soon.

The writing and dialog are flawless and engaging. I look forward to reading other books by Tracey Lampley. Put Kept on your must read list.
Tracey has a strong voice and creates an interesting story.
Kate is the main character and you immediately feel for her as she is told her husband is having an affair. There is a lot going on in Kate's life, a handsome neighbour lets her know he fancy her, there is an attempted murder and a dodgy cop following her.
For a short story it as it all and a very enjoyable read.
Give this one a read! It's worth it!
